Buick Grand National.

Possibly a 3.8SFI Turbo like the one Damien Lewis drove in Life.

Damn so close but so far. You're spot on. Must be sister models. Can't see two manufacturers producing something that hideous by accident.

Although on checking Google, it would appear not.

How did both GM and Chrysler end up making monster coupes like these.

Buick Grand National...I believe all had the 3,8 Turbo in them.
I used to run a Buick Riviera with that engine back in the day....it was a lovely looking machine. The Grand Nationals had a bit of a cult following and I can see them being a classic one day.

In the TV series ' Life ', Damian Lewis' character drives one after his Bentley has been run over by a tractor.
It actually looks fairly cool and different - well one of those anyway...

Sort of - the GNX was a limited run model that was a heavily breathed on regal grand national to give it some serious performance (0-60 in about 4.5secs) GNXs are now worth a small fortune

It's a GM G-Body, usually found in the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, or Buick Grand National if you had more cash. I think there may have been a Pontiac on that frame too - maybe a LeMans.

The exact car appears to be a Buick GN-X - or Grand National X. Effectively the normal car fitted with an enlarged V6 with a single turbocharger. Serious power and also found in the GMC Syclone truck.
