Speaking to a guy who is an MoT tester last night he was saying they are already receiving bookings for MoT tests in March. He said they are already fully booked for the last 2 weeks of the month from a couple of local fleet owners who have realised there is a change in the regulations being introduced by VOSA in April where the DPF is now part of the test.

People are trying to get 12 months MoT on their vehicles to give themselves some breathing space to sort the issue if they have already had the DPF removed.

So if your MoT is due in March or even before... get it booked in! especially if you have had your DPF removed!

I know people have quoted this, but looking on the government web site, it comes in from February!

There will always be someone to do an MOT - even on the day if you don't mind phoning around.

Can you speak to him again and ask how exactly they are going to test for this?
I'm intrigued...

Yea, you are probably right... but its just easier to book well in advance if you have prior warning there may be an issue.

Its not like it used to be though... An MoT tester can only do a certain number of tests in a day now though as he has to log onto the system with his card... Too many tests in a day and VOSA are on his back... Which means there is a finite number of tests slots available

I asked him that... he said many he sees many that have obviously just been removed. He said in the future, anyone that removed them may make a better job at disguising it, but for now there are a loads of vehicles where it obvious.

Easy. They stand a leprechaun up against the exhaust and rev it like buggery. If the leprechaun keels over and croaks....fail.

Not very scientific is it though... what constitutes "keels over" what if he sneezes a bit but then dies AFTER they have issued the certificate?

Mines due in June but I think I'll get it done in March/April as I won't be able to do it when it's due!

Thanks.thumbup
Easy to get round in the future then: Remove from vehicle, cut the top open, break out the contents, weld up, re-fix, re-program ECU. Business as usual.
Just as effective as the banning of talking on mobile phones whilst driving then....

I wonder if a visual or 'feeling' test for welding on the DPF casing will follow shortly.

Can't find anything about this rumoured change on MOTINFO or or the Special Notices. Where's he getting his facts from?

The only "similar" is http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s07000404.htm

Which talks about before 1 July 08 and afterwards as being a change. I would imagine a post 08 car without a DPF would be "likely" (but no guarantee) to fail a standard emissions test. But even that's not a case of checking for DPF removal.

I saw that recently. But it's not from VOSA and given VOSa had a st time of it getting the last changes through and into the test, I can't imagine it will be able to get the DPF removal through in 2 months. (even though I agree with the principle)

No point cutting it open removing the contents and re welding up as the infra red temperature sensor which will be used on the test will be able to detect if this has been done. The same consistent temp before and after the DPF will point to gutting and an MOT failure..
