Just wondering if its possible for Hoe Public to get passenger rides in such vehicles or is it more of a case the owner offers than you paying for the experiance?

Also for those who have which car and what was it like? Fearful or just non stop grins?

Never been in one but I would think at full chat they would border on scary to unenjoyable.

Did you watch Idris Elba King Of Speed last night? The Metro 6R4 on it looked and sounded awesome! Never even seen a group B in the flesh but if could drive one I'd probably choose the RS200, then the 6R4.

I was driven round Silverstone in a Porsche 911 cup car by Dario Franchitti and it was an eye opener as to how fast a car could go round corners.

My father had a sport Quattro . Went in it many times, he let me drive it several. Bloody brilliant and scary in equal measures . After driving it for 1/2 hour down one of my favorite roads I was knackered and had even more respect for the professional rally drivers who competed in them. His was a right handful with 350 bhp, what they were like with 550+ !!!

Used to service a 6r4 back in the day so went out in it quite a few times, with the right gearing 0 to 60 was as fast as you could change gear, but it was much more than that, just the shear grunt and noise.....those were the days .
If any petrol head gets a chance to go in any group b , jump at it, you won't regret it !

Mate of mine had a 6R4 he rallycrossed, when he went from the 6R4 to GpN he rebuilt the 6R4 into a fresh pod, I worked on it for the summer when it was turned back into a road car. He took me out in it when it was done. It was amazing, the braking power almost as impressive as the acceleration. He once turned up at mine in a borrowed RS200, I could hear it streets away before he arrived.

I have done 6R4, RS200, Lancia Rally037, Lancia Delta S4, Quattro, Sport Quattro & 205T16 all from the driving seat.

Not too mention a 288GTO & a 959 which where not really Group B cars (imo) but which were awesome road cars.

All epic cars in their own unique way - favourite will always be LYV 4X which was an ex Malcolm Wilson Quattro. A beast of a car with massive amounts of power, stunning amounts of grip, huge speed & an epic sound-track.

The 6R4 was an evil little fker which would try to kill you every time you hit the throttle but which was so much fun on the loose. When driven on the road it even more fun!

Should also mention at this point that my mum had a 6R4 as a 'company car' for just over a year but it scared her so much should rarely drove it!!!

Scared the living crap out of the neighbour's every time she fired up the engine.

Also had lots of fun being taught how to drive sideways properly by Graham Elsmore - he taught me in a Vauxhall Chevette HS2300 which, whilst not a Group B car, was a great little car to drive.

Group B - an epic era for motorsport even though the cars where inherently dangerous.

Happy days sadly gone for ever.

Fat boy69 what a stunning list of cars to have driven Your a very lucky man.

Was the S4 Lancia when you drove it so notably ahead of all the others that if it the championship had carried on it would have been utterly dominant.

What about noise which one from the drivers seat sounds the best when in full attack?

Oh yes...

Lucky enough to work in the media through the 80's and 90's.
A day or two before each RAC Rally started, we got to do a press day, and could blag rides round a day 1 stage.
Donington and Rudding Park near Harrogate were memorable.

I was a bit down the pecking order at that time so the Group B rides i got were a bit muted.
But after Group B's demise got some really good rides.
Pentti Airikkala & Ari Vatenen were memorable.
Louise Aitkin was fun.
Derrick Bell (yes LeMans winning Bell) in an Astra was very scary.

Best laugh by a mile was Per Eklund in a Nissan March Turbo. He had not driven the thing until the day before the event.
Once he knew the stage with his co-driver, used me as ballast to get to know the limits of the car.
Lap after lap of the stage 1 Rudding Park, getting quicker and quicker. Marshals were cheering as we went round on two wheels.
After a few laps he said something like.
"You are confident in car, yes?. You able to read map, yes?. You make good co- driver..." Er no.

Oh happy days.

Had some pretty special circuit rides too, but don't get me going.

Yes, that's me so maybe i was cheating a bit but have done them all.

The S4 we had & that i drove was a road car so it was de-tuned when compared to the full rally version so cant compare the two.

As for the noise - the Quattro remains my favourite although the 6R4 in full flight is epic.

Not sure that any rally car, not even the Impreza, can match the Quattro for noise.
