Specifically admin fees and dishonest pricing.

So you see a car that you like, then you see in the small print that there's an admin fee (typically anywhere between £100 and £500) on every car sold.

So the car's not £9999 then, is it? It's £10,495 or whatever.

Or a car that's advertised for, say, £9,999 but when you turn up the sticker price is £10,495. And when you query it, you get some waffle about the “internet price” and “if you want a warranty then you have to pay the higher price” blah, blah, blah.

OK, neither is a real biggy in the grand scheme. But why do it?

It seems pointless and leaves a nasty taste because if they can't be honest about the price, then what else are they not being honest about?

So a tip for the dealers: If you want £10.5k for a car, then advertise it as such – I'd still buy it and you won't look like an underhand tosser trying to pull a fast one.

Surely you explain politely that you ain't paying sticker price anyway. So expect them to waive that fee.

If not, walk.

There's an increasing number of small sthole dealers charging c. £100 'admin fees'

Deceptive pricing basically, what happened to their costs being covered by their margins? - and maybe they wouldn't have to reimburse this under SOGA should they be required to refund the cost of the car?
