Best way to take the money is to ask the buyer to transfer using their online banking. They do it, then you logon to yours and check the money has arrived. Other options you will have heard of before. The most important thing is that you have cleared funds before the car goes. No money, no car.
Best thing for a test drive is for you to drive it and perhaps allow the buyer to have a quick scoot around the carpark. They can listen for noises as a passenger and check there aren't any problems with steering pulling or gear/clutch problems.

Tell prospective buyers on the phone/email/etc to bring valid & up to date photo id and evidence of insurance for this sort of vehicle (you need to tie the person to the insurance document....lots of 'personation' issues out there). If they can't produce this then tell them in advance they'll only be able to be a passenger in the car whilst you drive it. Personally, I'd never buy a car without a proper test drive (with one famous exception to this rule) but insurance has never be a problem for me.
Even if they do have insurance etc don't let them test drive it unaccompanied as, depending on the part of the country you're based, you may not see the car again...This happened to a mate of mine.
Cleanest, quickest way of doing the deal will be cash. (Count it in their presence as well & screen for 'Monopoly' money as well.) Of course there are a number of electronic ways money can be moved between buyer and seller but they are not 'cast iron' and can be 'reversed' by unscrupulous buyers and there can be fraud issues too. (£10k or less in cash will not trigger any money-laundering red-flag warnings at your bank when you put it into your account.)
Good luck with the sale. (I've got a feeling this car will a attract a goodly number of the 'innit' brigade test pilots...I'd want to screen them out if possible...but then again one of them might buy the car).

My advice would be check WBAC and other avenues of a trade sale.
It might be a waste of time but it might not be far away from how much you want.
Then you can weigh up if the difference is a price worth paying to never have to deal with idiots turning up on your doorstep.
Just a thought.

Also NEVER stay in especially waiting for them to turn up...a good percentage of "viewers" never come when they say they are going to, wasting your day....(Learnt this lesson several times in the past)
Always try to arrange a time (in daylight) when you are going to be home anyway, so if they don't turn up you have not lost anything.
Always be on your guard, buying/selling privately can be a minefield..

It certainly will! Even a cheque for half that amount will get their sphincters twitching.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
