Gashqai alternatives
Discussion
Evening all, its yet another what car thread!
Looking to change up cars next year and the misses is chucking in half the cash, our total spend is about 8k
The qashqai has come up as a potential replacement but our needs are:
Isofix
Decent bootspace (we have a 9-5 saloon)
automatic
leather seats, with memory
decent power - shes used to the 250bhp
capable of towing my jetski
better economy round town than the saab (17mpg)
Obv the QQ fails on power, so what options do we have?

Octavia VRS
Isofix - yes
Decent bootspace (we have a 9-5 saloon) - yes
automatic - can be
leather seats, with memory - not sure, mine doesn't
decent power - shes used to the 250bhp - 200std in the petrol more with a remap.
capable of towing my jetski - should be fine up to 1800kg
better economy round town than the saab (17mpg) - I average mid-high 30s in mixed driving.

MrsMercs was dreaming about getting just the same car - but we never did get to test drive one due to lack of a local(ish) CVT. The car we did sit in had the size, but we found access to the front footwell's poor.
A Toyota Verso 'coming in' to the local dealer never appeared - but this would probably be the best for overall space.
What we do collect in the morning is a B class - originally looking in your budget but we stretched it a little in the end. Excellent space all round. We originally tested a local 200 but rejected it due to a light interior. In an ideal world that is what we would have liked but we are ending up with a 160. Plenty of diesels out there but we only wanted petrol due to very short journey's - although my specialist says he has not had any Mercedes DPF issues (VW group / Ford are another thing).
Should get something that's at least a 56 plate - 58 plate is better as both those roughly signify model updates. The main thing is the CVT box - its servicing MUST have been on time or earlier.
A few nice cars out there if you don't mind travelling for the right one.
As with the Nissan its a CVT - if you haven't had one before you might take some getting used to it. We had one in our earlier Jazz and miss it in the current Jazz (i-Shift - best driven on the flappy paddles - which I will miss truth be told).

I have a Qashqai (we're on our 2nd) and to be honest it fails on pretty much all of the criteria you list with the exception of fuel economy.
It's not too bad and it's got plenty of kit (it's the 360 edition) but at the end of the day it's a Focus/ Golf rival and I think the things you require are from a larger car. It's well screwed together but feels quite cheap compared to say VAG products, performance is mediocre as is economy, boot space is ok but we need roof box for family holidays.
We got the second one as the first one got written off and my wife (who was driving) wanted a direct replacement. It was quite cheap on a lease deal but If I were looking at the moment for a new replacement I would be looking at an A6 Avant which you can lease for the same price.
