Looking for opinons on s-type Jags from around the 1999-2005 period.Going by the majority of owner reviews online the quality of most parts on them seems to be absolutely shocking!! So many things seem to go wrong with them, and consistently across most owners! Is it just because the model's had the Ford pooh-stick waved across it??Im maybe thinking they're of an age now that if things have gone wrong they will have at some time been sorted by now.

I had a 4.2 V8.

It was a 53 plate.

Great car with no problems during 2.5 years ownership. It was sufficiently fast.

The economy was not the best but that was expected at the time of purchase and was, If I recall, over £6k less than a similar car for sale at the dealers, with similar spec and price. The difference was that the other car was a Diesel! My man maths justified the lack of economy against the saving made.

It was a face lift model that do look nicer.

They started off not bad, and finished rather good actually.

The Ford-Peugeot 2.7 twin turbo diesel is over complicated and not without more than a few problems problems.

The 2.5 petrol a little underpowered, the 3.0 adequate, the 4.2 more than adequate (infact enough for most of us) and the 4.2 Supercharged is very fast.

Heavy on bushes and tyres, lovely to drive, with a more 'planted' feel than even the excellent XF (which we have at the moment).

When my X-Type has served it's purpose, I'll more than likely get a nice low mileage 4.2 to replace it. smile

I have a 3.0 V6 petrol, had it for 4 years and 60k miles. Apart from the usual consumables, all it's needed is an A/C compressor. Lovely car to drive, very comfortable and quite luxurious. The auto gearbox isn't always the greatest, but other than that it's been fine. I've got the sport model, so it has a decent body kit and no wood trim. Give one a try.

We had a 2001, 3 litre S type sport manual for 6 years, 60k miles, wife loved it,bought at 50k miles, avoid the auto as they are prone to probs, only probs we had were the normal, misfires due to coil packs, ignition loom, not expensive to fix, and front suspension ball joints.lovely car though mine was mint when we sold it.

My guvnor had one circa 2006 ( 51 plate) and EVERYTHING went wrong on it including....

Flaking paint

Shot ecu

All electric window motors

Rear diff

Abs module

Speedo cluster

Only 2 or 3 of these happened when it was under warranty!

It was the 3.0 version.

Avoid like a scabby fanny unless its only banger money IMO!

A mate at work has just bought one for £300 with nearly a years tax & 6 months MOT, a lot of car for the money as he could more than get his money back just cashing in the tax & weighing it in!
