New Audi Owner
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I am new Audi owner just thought I would say hello.
I have an Audi 2.0 2007 S-line car. The car has 125K on the clock. I would like some help/advice.
1. Should I use the original Audi coolant and engine oil? If yes, where is the cheapest place to purchase these items.
2. I have an engine management light on at the moment. The fault says - boost pressure regulation control range not reached P0299.
The car seems to be running fine but I want to get this problem sorted. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Applethunder

Can I assume it's a diesel? I use Castrol Edge 5W30 VW 507 rated grade in mine. I get this from Euro Car Parts. It's a long life oil but I change it every 9 months/9k miles.
These engines all seem to run on the red 5 year coolant...I'm sure it states on the reservoir what is needed. Again Euro Car Parts seem cheap enough.

Firstly unless youre draining the radiator completely, dont mix types of Audi coolant as you can end up with sludge, your car should have G11 or G12 coolant in it. Can be bought from Euro Car PartsI am new Audi owner just thought I would say hello.

Secondly that error code could be a split boost pipe (check for damaged hoses), shagged turbo, N75 vavle, turbo actuator, infact any number of things...

Current VW coolant is G13, and can be backward mixed with any other type of VW coolant - G11/G12/G12+/G12++ Secondly that error code could be a split boost pipe (check for damaged hoses), shagged turbo, N75 vavle, turbo actuator, infact any number of things...

If the car is a 2007 model though it will most likely have VW's G12 or G12+ which is a sort of luminous pink colour.
I'm new to Audi also so hello! An 02 A4 1.8t Quattro on 60k. I have done similar research to you on oil and everywhere I looked say use decent oil! So today, I bought 5 litres of halfords vag spec 5W30 full synth for £42. I have also seen asda with one that meets vag spec for £20 for 5 litres. A 4 litre won't be enough.

What i meant was dont mix it with other non VW/Audi types i.e. The old blue stuff.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies.
The car is diesel. The coolant looks blue colour at the moment.
I think the last owner must have put generic coolant in it. Is it best to remove that and replace with the G13?
Coolant colour is a worry! I would get that flushed asap and get proper VW coolant of the correct grade. Mixing OAT and non OAT coolants is a bad idea. As a general rule OAT coolant is pink or orange, glycol based is blue or green. Your 2007 Audi should almost certainly be using OATThanks for the replies.

Could try on some of the Audi forums such as www.audi-sport.net
There may be someone local with vagcom that may tell yu more on error code / engine management light, or pay an independant Audi specialist ?

If it was me, I'd say yes. I've flushed it out on mine in previous years (like when I recently had to do a radiator swap) and even after 3-4 years in the car, it's still been bright pink and free from contaminants. I couldn't tell you an actual reason why you should, but knowing that the coolant is formulated to work in those engines (and the metals, etc used in their engines and throughout the cooling system) would make me feel better. Thanks for the replies.

Not a swipe at you OP, but the previous owners.. but I just don't understand why people put generic coolant into a car of that value (as I'm sure it's still worth a bit of money), especially given that VW coolant doesn't exactly cost a lot especially in the grand scheme of other maintenance and running costs.
Lastly, where are you based OP? I know a few good independent VW/Audi specialists who I'd happily endorse / recommend.
