nearing the end of a PCP deal.
Discussion
Hi all
Firstly apologies for perhaps coming across as a dumbass.
I have always bought my own cars privately - I've never had a PCP deal. My wife got a brand new VW Polo Match TDi in 2011 from a main VW dealer with one of these deals. Nice little car bought for cheap motoring to and from work etc. She likes the car and it is the spec she would look for in any new car. She just misses her Golf's - always had these through the years.
In the nest 4-6 weeks we will be going back to the dealer to look at what stock they've got and look at her options. In all probability we will just purchase the Polo outright unless she see's a Golf with similar spec and in her price range.
My query is hopefully a simple one - if we were going to the showroom as new customers purchasing a used Golf we'd get the car serviced and a years free comprehensive VW warranty (she's bought a few over the years from the dealership and always got this). If she decides to purchase the car is there any negotiating that can be done over the deal? We know the price is non negotiable - that's fine that was the deal we agreed at the start. But can we ask for any thing extra?
When we take the car back it will have approx 5 months of the original warranty remaining and we have one free service to come when the time comes for it. So if you want to buy the car is there anything to negotiate ? Can she ask for say a years warranty with the car or anything like that?
I know I'm coming across as wanting the world for what is a used car - I just haven't had one of these deals and don't want to miss a trick!
Happy New Year to you all when it comes !
Cheers

It's all down to how well priced the car is in the first place and how keen the dealer is to do a deal.
If it's already the cheapest in the country then there may well be no negotiation, but it's always worth asking!
Why not just keep the car you have? Seems to have been a good car and you know it .. ?

Yeah unfortunately you're not doing what the dealer wants so there's no room for negotiation. They don't sell a new car and they don't get your car in as new stock. I'm sure the service department will be happy to see you back for the odd job here and there but it's not going to be enough to get a sweetener of some sorts.
I guess it's worth asking though.....

As far as I can see there's nothing in it for the dealer.
You owe money to the finance company, not the dealer.
At that age the car is probably soon going to a specialist for servicing rather than a main dealer.
Although, they might offer you a discount on a prepaid service package, just to keep you using them. But it won't be much of a deal.

No, you've got a contract with the finance company and it will say in black and white what you will have to pay to purchase the car. You can check that now, so you know how much it will cost you.The dealer has no interest in any of this, your contract is with the finance company.
Exactly as i thought !
She has bought her last 4 cars from the same dealer at the same dealership. He knows she really wants a Golf and there is a good relationship between the dealer and us, we never get hard sell etc and get good service. Because there is good relationship and we decide to keep the car I will jokingly ask for extra's ! (not those kind !)
The car has been great - £20 road tax, relatively nippy for a small diesel - she loves it but misses her Golf.
Anyway - you all said what I was thinking. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Have a great new year all.

You could always ask the dealer what the Polo is worth as a PX. He may be prepared to offer more that the GFV/balloon payment. If so, he pays the finance off and owns the car, your finance is finished and the equity can go towards the Golf.
Just make sure the extra isn't welded onto the price of the Golf.
