What car for the person whos not interested in cars?
Discussion
the OH, totally uninterested in cars focus has had cylinder failure, so we are now on a search for a new car.
hes picked the golf gti, but ive also shown him the volvo c30, 1 seires etc.
we are looking at nearly new. he had the focus from new in the family in 1999, shows how often they change.
budget is about £16k, although i think finance will be a better option as spending 16k on a hatch seems crazy given the deals you can get.
what am i missing?

Why spend 16k when the driver shows no interest in cars?..Especially on finance?
You can get a perfectly decent reliable car for under 5k, two or three years old if you look hard enough.
Exactly, something Korean would be perfectly adequate. You can get a perfectly decent reliable car for under 5k, two or three years old if you look hard enough.

is the reaction i just got.didnt say it has to be 16k, but show me a focus sized car, with lowish miles and a petrol engine for under 6k and 3 years

Volvo C30 is a good shout IMO, I had one for nearly five years in R-Design, but with a crap engine, never skipped a beat and looked great, it got a lot of attention even up until the point of me selling it. It was comfortable and the seats are excellent, the boot is a good size but the opening isn't so fitting larger stuff in can be a struggle - rear leg room adequate but no more.
I'd recommend one all day long providing you don't need a massive car, but don't get a petrol with anything smaller than the 2.0 - heavy car.

Many, many Ford Focuses like the one posted above or
Vauxhall Astra

Peugeot 308

Plenty of other choices too without needing to spend a fortune

I'd be looking at a Kia C'eed.
Huge warranty, one of the best reliability records in the industry, and it's a pretty damned decent car if you're after white-goods. You'd get one with more warranty left than most new cars start with for half your budget.

Drive's pretty good aswellHuge warranty, one of the best reliability records in the industry, and it's a pretty damned decent car if you're after white-goods.
