[quote]Jason Thomas, aged 33, has been jailed for just under two years at Worcester Crown Court for endangering the lives of hundreds of people, along with his own family during a high-speed chase with police.

Police, who suspected Thomas had drugs, had initially just flashed their lights at him as he drove a silver Vauxhall Vectra along the M5.

But Thomas who was driving while disqualified and without insurance reacted by accelerating away, weaving in and out of traffic on the motorway at speeds of more than 100mph.

Ok, knobbish driving, but "HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE!!!!"? I expect better of broadsheets.

the most appalling thing IMO is he had his 3 young children in the car! The scumbag then ran off without any concern for their welfare!

Same as the bloke who crashed into me, he ran off leaving a 4-5year old sat in the passenger seat - truly bizarre!

Depends how you interpret the wording. I don't think they are suggesting hundreds of people could have been killed; simply that hundreds of people in the vicinity were put in danger as the chase passed them and any one of them could have been killed in less fortunate circumstances.

confused Did he really think he was going to be able to escape from the police by doing a whole 95mph down an empty hard-shoulder?

In fairness I would say that he probably did put potentially hundreds of lives in danger, just not all at once.

ETA:- beaten to it.

Maybe he had budget tyres fitted to his Vectra.

The court heard it was Thomas's sixth conviction for dangerous driving, and that he was already driving whilst disqualified and without insurance.

Thomas also had 11 previous convictions for driving while disqualified.

Scum...

Shame the video stops right before the arrest, I'd imagine the cops were quite "assertive". I feel sorry for the person he t-boned.

Appalling driving and he should (and will) be locked up, but where does the kneejerk assumption that he's on welfare and the kids are a means to that end come from?

Nothing about that in any of the reports I've seen, and it's not like a journo to miss an obvious crowd pleaser like "mr x, who has been unemployed and ripping us off on benefits since he was fifteen..."

I've met plenty of employed dheads too...

ETA Ditto drugs - if he was found in posession I would expect that to be reported also.

Exactly this. Pretty straight forward surely?
