...any? I suppose it depends which car! What is a must nowadays and how much 'money' do they retain?

Why not buy what you want? Why buy a car to suit its next owner?

They don't usually keep their value, rather they'll make the car easier to sell.

This.

TBH it matters what car too. A Merc without Leather is virtually unsalable. Conversely a Fiesta with leather is a good thing. Nav and Parking sensors are worth having as a rule IMO

Indeed. On something like a 3 series, the three most important are leather, nav and xenons (in that order) I'd say.

If you are buying on finance and change cars regularly then it is sometimes pretty cost effective to add options which give an RV uplift. In these instances you are not just dividing the cost of the option over the term of the agreement you are paying the difference between the uplift and the cost.

Edit to add that yes it will vary by model and also whether or not the finance company give an uplift for that particular option.

Been looking at the Mondeo ST petrol and diesel - one of the key options was the excellent Denso touch screen satnav / bluetooth / audio and almost none of the cars actually had it fitted, probably because it was about 2 grand. The superb Recaro seats were optional on the diesel along with full leather trim - hardly any seem to have these options but the 2nd values don't seem to be affected either way.
