Renault diesel problem!
Discussion
Any technical bods about? Father in law has a bomb of a y reg 1.9 diesel kangoo van for work and tip runs. Takes abuse, beatings and work and keeps going, until today. Cranks over well but immobiliser light stays lit on the dash, it usually flashes but goes out on cranking and stays off when running. All obvious looks good, all I suggested was a new battery in the key so it can pair up with the immobiliser and start? Any other ideas welcome ?!?
Does it have central locking? If so, unlock and lock again. If it doesn't does his key rattle? The trnasponders can come looks in the key and rattle away from the barrel. The receivers for the transponder are very weak and need the to be close to the transponder it's self. If no joy they possible the inhibitor on the fuel pump?
Hi mate, it's quite a common problem with the immobilisers so I'm led to believe.
I had the same problem on one o my friends. Behind the clocks is the immobiliser ecu, they go faulty.
There's a bloke up near Northallerton, bishop Auckland way somewhere who replaces and requires them for about 50 quid.
It was a simple plug and play job then.
Hope this helps, it's solved immediately and permenantly the issues with his.

Unless Renault use a different system to most other manufacturers, the battery in the fob will make no difference; it is a passive transponder which is recognised by the ring antenna in the ignition barrel and requires no power.
Another thing which can cause them to fail to operate is to have two transponder-type keys on the keyring, it will not know which one to recognise, so will recognise neither.
