What's the best all round new car on sale today?

Now and again a manufacturer produces a car that hits the sweet spot of style, desirability, spec, practicality, gearbox/engine quality, and value. It's the ideal car for petrolhead who needs a car to do non-petrolhead things like get grandparents in the back and transport largish, bulky items. Which NEW car does that best? Max budget £30,000.

All the car you'll ever need for the usual "day to day" commuting/family/crap to the tip stuff.
Leaves significant room in the budget for something a bit better as a weekend car.
I honestly dont think there are any current cars that I'd rather have over my e30. too many driver aids and not enough feeling, so spend as little as possible on one that ticks the boxes, and then get something fun would be my approach

Yeah I'd think so. Can't see anything as well rounded. E.g. Focus / Golf / A3 / French lose on space. The Koreans lose on drive and power.Shockingly cheap for the 220bhp. Tons of space. Economical. Above average quality. Good looks (ok, subjective). Drives very well.
