My car needs its first M.O.T and I need 2 new tyres.

The best prices I can find for what I need seems to be Kwik Fit.

£30 for M.O.T

Pirelli P7's £121 each fitted.

All I can find online is complaints but everywhere else I have looked seems quite alot more expensive.

Is it worth a shot or avoid just avoid it? confused

The branch in particular would be the Preston one if anybody has had any experience there.

few people go on line to praise.
you need 2 tyres and a M.O.T, its got to be worth the perceived "risk" surely?

For the tyres it should be safe(ish) as they cant upsell you much on that but I would never, ever go near them for an MOT. Thats just asking for trouble.

Edit: What size are the tyres? A P7 205/55/16 is £121 from Kwikfit or £107.16 from event tyres.

well i might have been lucky but i never had problems with MOTs for my urquattro, lancia integrale or xkr.
i did feel they sold my Mother an unneccesary battery for her car once when it was an alternator fault.
This was in 3 different branches.

start a new thread "honest mot center near preston" you should get someone that knows a place you can trust

quickfits £30 price might sound cheap , but then add on all the worn out stuff they will find and it wont be cheap anymore

FWIW I had great service from the one Kwik Fit Woking. I rocked up without an appointment on a bank holiday when the rest of the country was closed and in the pub, they couldn't do more to help me.

I gave Seat a ring to check prices and MOT is £39.

It turns out they do tyre's there as well even though there is no mention of it online, I asked about price matching and they said they do it as long as its comparison is a known company.

This will probably be the best route to take!

My tire size is 215/40V17 XL.

I have only used them a few times but each time they have been faultless. On one occasion they diagnosed and removed a rattly exhaust heat shield and didn't even charge. Sure it was probably only 15 mins work for someone but how many companies would still charge 30mins labour at £35 for the pleasure?

No idea why you need Extra Load tyres on what I assume is an Ibiza or Leon.

Still, Kwik Fit do seem the cheapest but double check that the main agent will agree to matching their price up front otherwise you might get a nasty shock when the bill arrives.

I've never had a problem with Kwikfit, they've always been helpful, honest and fair to me.

Just seen Pirelli P7s 215/40/17 87V XL for £91.39 on tyreleader.co.UK if that's any good to you?

Yes its an Ibiza, the tyres from factory are Bridgestone Potenza XL and it seems when I put the car reg in any tyre website it comes up with all the XL tyres.

I will never use Kwik Fit after they once took advantage of my mother's mechanical ignorance by telling her she needed to change two shock absorbers which had been changed the previous week. That is a stty way to operate and it serves them right I tell as many people as I can that Kwik Fit are not to be trusted.

Get the tyres if they're really cheaper there. For MOT I usually use a test-only place - I dunno about you, but around here Local Authorities run some. A fair test and no incentive to find work. When I lived in Peterborough the local test only place kept a supply of common bulbs and would put in for free it one was out.

Last time I used them they took my nice M dust caps and replaced them with plastic ones……..twice, marked every one of my wheels being careless slamming nuts back on and also managed to give 2 of my cars a heavy vibration above 80 despite 3 different attempts by them to balance them.

Next garage balanced the wheels once and vibration gone. Also charged me over 300 per tyre when I can find them elsewhere for just over 200.

Oh and they fitted the wrong taper nuts too.

Would I 'risk' it again? Hell no.

My experience is that they are fking wk. Took my car to get the tracking done and they bksed it up 3 times, in the end got fed up and went to a decent motorsport place and got a full alignment done for only 40quid more.

ETA i have just realised that was ATS, kwik fit have been alright when ive used them actually.

No. HTH.

Find a local independent garage and give them your trade instead. There's cheap, and there's cheap for a reason.

for balance I recently had my 540i done there....for £30

I cocked up the booking (twice) and they re-arranged it to another time/day (weekend) without any issue. I then had the MOT done and it passed, although with an advisories for having under engine trays and a gearbox fluid leak (fluid spill from change a week before). Would have rathered the latter wasn't on record but it was cheap and it passed so its all good with me.
