Just wondering,

If a person was to buy a car, say for exmaple, £1000 and then sell it for anything higher, how do they get away without having their name on the ownership docs?

So if the car has had 1 owner, and then someone buys it to sell, surely thats 2 owners from new.

I just got thinking.... garages can do it - can private 'business' people do it as well or do they have to register the car to their name?

I know there are people out there who buy cars to sell them - whether they fix them up or not. Do they have to have that extra 1 owner against the car?

If you send off the yellow slip from the V5 stating that the car is "with trade", it doesn't add a keeper but suppresses tax reminders etc.

What qualifies you as a motor trader?

You should have a registered business. Some people however will convince the seller not to fill anything in on the V5 and just hand it over.

I always fill in the trade bit if I'm buying to sell, and I'm not a trader I'm a mechanic that buys the odd 'fixer upper'

It takes it out of the keepership of the previous owner iirc?

Nope just need to buy and sell cars.
Anyway it all academic cos filling in the V5 only proves you are the registerd keeper not the owner, to be the owner you need a recipt.
