Hi all, my first "what car" thread which is so similar to a lot of others but I still feel like I need to ask.
I want to change our Smart ForTwo for something else, it's probably about to explode soon as its hit 30k miles finally - OK I exaggerate as its very well looked after but more than two seats would be handy sometimes. I didn't really choose it for me as someone else in the family wanted to use something that was auto (but never ended up driving it) so here we are looking to swap it for a manual something or other.

Budget is probably £1500 as we only own half the car and I'd like it to be cheap to run as a runabout - the Smart has been that even if not as amazing on fuel as you'd think! So something with 4 seats and a bit of a laugh to drive to use for my commuting and general running about leaves with this list:

Clio 172 - plenty about although high miles, not that cheap to run? and had a Clio DCi for several years which had several engine problems but liked the car in general/looks good etc.
Yaris T-Sport - Mum and Brother both have these but I find them a bit bland and they are missing the kick my old Corolla T-Sport had frown
Puma - RUST!? Looks OK ish and heated front screen could be a bonus in winter. Supposedly good drive.
Ignis Sport (current favourite!) - not many around in budget, just found a few threads about these yesterday and they seems popular on here. I quite like the looks and they seem to be practical and a bit of a giggle to drive. Cheap to run?

Anything I'm missing?

Ford heated screen of that era are a bit patchy and hit and miss - my 07 Fiesta ST has about 75% in various areas.

The Fiesta Mk 6 in various guises is a good steer but popularity keeps prices high.
The Ignis Sport may be a good shout. I went to see one but was put off by the 80s interior (not that the renault is much better) so never drove it.

Regrettably, small cars tend to command high prices.
Have you thought about something like a Saab? Cheap as chips these days.

Go for the Clio 172. Their prices have dropped dramatically and you can get a good one for that money.
They will be the quickest and best handling out of all those options and a little quicker than your T Sport.
If you get a late 172 or a 182 then they are fairly well equipped as well with Cruise/Climate/Auto Xenons/Auto wipers etc smile

I have seen a couple of 9-3 HOT's cheap actually and did wonder... not sure how cheap they are to run but they look nice smile Quite fancy something small still though as we are used to parking the smart almost anywhere and the driveway doesn't have loads of room.

172's have come down a lot recently it seems and yes much better specced than the poverty spec DCi we had.
