Quick question, I have just gone in to sign paperwork on a Defender 110xs only to find out all the quotes I have had were for a smaller cheaper model.

I'm now going to cut my nose off to spite my face! What are the alternatives for a no nonsense 4x4 7 seater for approx £30k?

cheers

New or used? How much off roading will you be doing?

For new have you looked at the Shogun?

Previous model 2009 Landcruiser and some serious change from £30K?

yeah they do, like a defender they are simple to repair with not much to go wrong but alot more comfortable to drive and in the UK the off road performance is very underestimated, they are really good off road.

Vehicle of choice for the 'travelling' community although I am not sure if that is a recommendation or not smile

Much as I love landrovers, having learned to drive in one, there's a reason why anywhere in in the world you go that has tough terrain you find loads of Landcruisers and Hilux.

Prado might be worth a look if the Landcruisers's too big but I'm not sure if they're available as a 7 seater.

Import a Hilux Surf?

Jeep Commander? Has to be in a dark colour due to all the chrome blig on them though. Decent 3l v6 diesel in them (or go for a 5.7 Hemi v8) & 7 seats

Another vote for a shogun or a land cruiser here. My father has owned both and they were both brilliant.

Also work looking at would be a discovery. They are brilliant too but you won't get as much/ as new for your money.

That isnt able to go off road as well as a Defender. If there are no plans to go off road then they might as well buy an MPV or a VW Transporter 4x4 (if they still sell them).

I've had two, (albeit not as new as you're considering), and I see no point in having anything else.

I was going to suggest a Toyota FJ Cruiser just to be different but I can't see any for sale at the moment on Autotrader or eBay.

That is just an image I grabbed quickly, so is this

Would rather go offroad in a Commander than a new 110, the puma engine is pants.

depends if you want a defender because you want to use it how it is meant to be used, or just to shuttle kids about?

if you actually go offroad in anything other than a grassy field, get a defender, if not most of the other ste would suffice
