Sorry, another "what car?" thread.

Looking for something under £500 that has at least 6 months MOT and has an engine no bigger than a 1.4. That is pretty much my only criteria. Would prefer not a diesel and not an automatic but as it's just a little stop gap I'm not too bothered.

Have been thinking of buying a 1.1 106 and giving it a tiny touch with the lowering stick and some white steelies but that is mostly daydreaming.

Any cars in particular other than the 106 I should look at?

At that sort of price, I wouldn't worry about made or model much; condition is far more important.

Fiesta 1.25 of about 99T vintage. Or a 1.3 Finese at a push. Much nicer car than a 106, or 206.

With £500 I'd just buy on condition first and car make second.

^ What he said! t that end of the market you can't be too fussy on models etc, buy whatever is in good condition.

What they said. buy on condition, not make or model. Also: Forget modding it. Save your money for a better car instead, you will get far more for your money. Nothing scares a buyer more at that end of the market than someone adding tarty bits and faffing around with the mechanicals.

Gah I thought so, guess I'll just have to keep browsing the bay and go have a look at some then.

There are plenty of local sales pages on Facebook, well worth a look there if you can find them. Normally once you find one or two facebook suggests others!

My current £300 snotter (1.4 Nissan Sunny, 10 months MOT, 6 months Tax ) was on Autotrader without a picture...

The mistake I made was not test driving...

Get something with a full years MOT and buy from a private seller. MAKE SURE its not a trader pretending to be a private seller.

Thats way you've a better chance of getting a decent £500 car, not a £200 scrapper that botched up with a traders margin on top

Unless you need it to be small so that you can afford to insure it you will probably do better buying a barge that kids can't afford to insure than competing with kids for a 106/Fiesta etc, Cavalier, Mondeo, Volvo etc - they're also heavier if you end up scrapping after you've had the use out of them!
