Does anyone else on PH come off at J13 Northbound on the M1? I am struggling to understand what causes the bizarre behaviour I see there on a very regular basis.

You exit the motorway and the slip road leads up to a 4 way roundabout, with 3 clearly marked lanes - turn left, straight on, turn right - pretty standard stuff I think we'd agree. And yet time and time again I see motorists in the LEFT lane attempting to turn right across the roundabout and nearly sideswiping those in the middle lane attempting to go straight. I'm at a loss to explain what causes them to do it - other than outright fkwittery.

So lunch relate.

The other thing I love doing is letting some arse undertake me as he's heading for the A421, but I go the other way towards the old road and frequently beat him onto the 421.

That warm glow of satisfaction never fades.

That junction really is beautifully laid out and marked so there's no excuse for the daily lash up people make of it.

I assume you meant Much rather than lunch! Why the fk do they do it though? It baffles me? Maybe something to do with the hardshoulder slip you can exit on, and then they dont think to cross lanes?

Yup, very common around my way too. Complete idiots. Usually no indicator either.

Yes, I use than junction all the time, since it has been updated it does seem to confuse most. Even on the M1 where the slip road replaces the hard shoulder causes issues, with idiots cutting across from lane 1 at the last minute as they don't realise then can use the far left lane to come of at J13.

A lot of motorists don't bother reading road markings or road signs giving directions to towns/directions. It's down to utter incompetence, moral disregard for others and pure fkwittery. A lot of the time it's down to local drivers. If you're in a strange area you try and follow the road markings. There's no rhyme or reason - good car or st car - other than selfishness.

Oh I'd agree we all see lots of fairly stty driving every day - but this one always stands out to me and really leaves me gobsmacked. Its happens, I would say, 1/3 or 1/4 times I use the junction. The sheer lack of sense of being in the far left lane when you actually wish to turn right just boggles my mind.

I use this junction infrequently. I find the lane markings confusing, hard to understand, and signed late. It does not help that it's an unusual road layout in terms of a junction.

I'm extremely cautious because of all of the above.

interesting. Do you mean the markings prior to exiting, or once you approach the roundabout having left the M1?

Once approaching the first roundabout, immediately after the M1. Can't put my finger on why, but the alignment feels odd, and consequently I become careful.

I turn right across the motorway and then head up the road towards Cranfield every day. Quite frequently the idiots in the middle lane decide they'll also turn right as well with no indication.

For added fun try going straight across the M1 towards Amazon/Ampthill and enjoy the chaos as no bugger can work out what lane they should be in if they want to go straight on or turn right onto the M1 southbound.

I travel from MK to Cranfield Cyder and do not use to M1 anymore, back roads through the villages is a lot more pain free….

I too have found the root from MK to A421 avoiding J13 and the M1, and have never been happier!

Sadly I live in Barton so have to come up the M1 or go a few miles extra and use the A6 (or back roads but they're slower generally).

The traffic around Salford has got a lot worse recently especially in the evenings heading back to the M1, I think it's because loads of people (like you lot wink) are avoiding Jct 13 and using the back roads, It improves a lot after 6-6.30pm though.

Lol had to check a map as it sounds like the Stevenage junction!!! I don't understand the logic sitting in the left lame to turn right (what do they think the right lane is for)

It is like many motorway junctions, in fact just junctions that involve the use of traffic islands, all over England now.

You require local knowledge, as some local tt thinks their idea is better than a national standard, like we used to have.

Used to use this junction every day up until a few months ago, Can't say I miss it especially where it goes up to MK in a single carriage lane.
