A question from a 6 year old
Discussion
OK, so my 6 year old is car mad, I'm not allowed to open Autocar when it arrives but even taking this into account I was surprised a few minutes ago
"Daddy, would the exhaust on your Alfa sound better if it had butterfly valves like the Vantage?"
I think a definite motoring nut in the making

Sadly I have work to do:
I went for a passenger ride in a Nissan GTR (about a year ago)
Me "Went out in Simon's GTR today, Dan"
Dan "Cool. Is it powerful?"
Me "Yeah. Very. More power than mine and your mother's car put together"
Dan "Wow" <thinks> "Would that be enough power to tow Grandad's (static) caravan then?"

HalfPints mk2 is my little car nut. At 4 she's very keen to drive daddy's car, shows impressive skills when handling her RC car, and makes me very proud when throwing the ride-on electric cars around the aisles at Toys-R-Us.
She knows an impressive range of cars based on either their badge or shape.

His prized possession is a 540 page book on all cars currently on sale that he got for Christmas - always got his head buried in it
Currently obsessed with engine configurations and capacity - my OH has admitted defeat I think
This sounds just like me as a child. He's in deep. Currently obsessed with engine configurations and capacity - my OH has admitted defeat I think

Nah, the only thing cooler than a little guy who knows his stuff is a little gal who knows hers.
Think Leon without the murdery stuff
I have this, my 13 year old daughter is well into cars and driving (birthday party is one of those under 16 driving experience events), loves going out in the Caterham etc. My 11 year old son is not in the least bit interested - if it isn't halo etc on xbox then it doesn't exist. Ah well... Think Leon without the murdery stuff

Daughter: Dad, there's a funny orange light on the dash board what does it mean?
Me : Look in the owners manual
Daughter : Where is that?
Me : Glove box
Her (2o mins later) : I think it's the tyre pressure warning light.
Me : Look at the tyres. Are any flat?.
Her : No idea, they all look the same.
Me: Get the pressure gauge that's in the glove box and check all 4 pressures. If they are all above 28, ignore it until I get home, and if any is above 16 but below 28 take it to the garage and pump it up to 30.
Her: I can't do that.
Me : Why not?
Her: I'll get my hands dirty.
Me: Put rubber gloves on. There's some under the sink.
Her: I don't know how to do that.
17 years old. I've failed.
I told this story to my 47 year old sister, and ended up buying her an electric pump and pressure gauge for Christmas. Apparently my wife, my sister, my sister in law, my mother in law and my niece (22) think it's okay to not know how to check the tyre pressures on the car.
My mother? She laughed, and mumbled something about it being pointless her ever bothering to burn her bra. (She can still change a wheel on Dad's car (aged 75))

Your son wears a grey cardigan and flat cap at the age of 5 doesn't he?
I picked up my then 5 year old son from a friends house and their son the same age came back with us to our house in the 968,
amongst the other chatter i heard the friend say
friend; Your dads car is brilliant
son; yes i know its a porsche
friend; its really fast isn't it (doing 30mph)
son; yes its got a 3 litre engine you know.
Made me chuckle, didn't know he knew that.
