If buying a used car from a main dealer, is there any point in doing another check myself?

Yes. Also check crucial bits of service history (eg cam belt change) with the dealer quoted as undertaking the work.

Also don't assume that because the car has passed their 114 million billion point check you will receive a car with working parking sensors, working DVD player, crack free windscreen and working headlight washers.
