Would you still be able able to pass the driving test?
Discussion
Having clicked on on a link to the highway code in an earlier thread, I came to the conclusion there is no way I'd pass. The actual driving I might scrape by on if I discarded 30 years worth of bad habits, really concentrated and then bribed the examiner, but the theory stuff
How do think you would do, using your existing knowledge of current laws and the highway code?
spelling police, the two ables in the thread title are duly noted, there is no need to take this any further.that is all

I got 46/50 on that example theory test so I passed, but I'm mildly disappointed that I didn't get everything right. Didn't help that I couldn't remember which hand-signal was which out of "slowing down" and "turning left".
I think I could pass my practical test, although I'd have to drive slightly differently than normal but not much.

Its not as bad as you think, I had to redo mine as dvla f
ked up. Crossing hands is not a fail. I fed the wheel on my last test but on parallel park it was arm over passenger seat and palm on wheel job.
When I asked if you had to feed the wheel the examiner said feed the wheel is what is best practice and taught bit if you have been driving for x years safely it would be wrong to force someone to change driving habbits for a 1 hour test. Obviously unsafe habits would be a fail.

50 out of 50, been driving just over 2 years.
I have a few habits that I would need to change to pass the practical test though.

I posted the above link to the theory practice tests before I tried them. Pleased to say I passed both of the car tests with a comfortable margin. I'm fairly confident I would pass the practical test but don't ask me to recite Highway Code stopping distances. I'd pass the test format I took in 1994, as I see it as my responsibility to others to keep up to date with the Highway Code and drive to a particular standard (IAM, RoSPA etc). However, having recently tried a few theory tests, I'd fail I think. One question asked me to spot the hazards during a video of a drive down on a stretch of road, so I clicked on some farm entrances, blind brows, kids playing ball near the road etc. I got the question wrong, because apparently the hazard was an old lady crossing the road up ahead! A few of those questions and I'd fail.

In feet, thinking distance equals speed in mph. Braking distance is speed^2, divided by 20. So at 30 mph, thinking is 30 feet and braking is 45 feet, adding up to 75 feet. Then you have to translate into metres as that's what the question asks, but dividing by 3 is close enough to choose the correct answer.blondini said:
45 out of 50 so I pass. I reckon I'd be OK at the wheel too.47 out of 50 on part 2 of the car test. As previously stated a mixture of the obvious and the irrelevant and far too many questions where in real life you would play the situation 'by ear'. Didn't know you weren't allowed to reverse into a main road from a side road though, naughty Wolfracesonic

Could probably still pass theory etc with a bit of scrubbing up. Only learned a few years ago, so still "shuffle" most of the time. Some bad habits have crept in though, like one handed driving and I've pretty much forgotten how to reverse around a corner as it's not something I do often. I could parallel park though, the benefits of living in Brighton and having limited parking last year!
So realistically, probably a fail, but could get it on second go with some practice at the shaky areas.

That includes drives, too. You're meant to reverse into your drive and drive out (unless if you have space to turn around, obviously). Most people don't, though.
