996 went into local tyre fitters yesterday for a pair of rear tyres.

When they'd finished I paid & went to drive off when I noticed a piece of paper on the rear wing. It was just the jobsheet, took it off, no harm done.

Oh hang on, where did that scratch come from? About 1.5-2" long & deep enough to not polish out frown
I've used these guys for 15yrs so went back in & discretely brought it to their attention. They had no explanation & were more pee'd off than me. Need to talk to the big boss on Monday & get back to me but what is acceptable?
The car is 12yrs old, do I accept a chips away type repair or push for a proper bodyshop?
I don' want to fall out with them, known them a long time & never had an issue before.

You can get the car repaired at a garage of your choice. What has the boss said this morning?

A smart repair will be able to sort that out no problem.

The difficulty might be proving that it wasnt there before you took the car in. why do they tape the job sheet to the car as well?

I'd accept chips and marks from road use (debris etc) but not from carelessness. If it can be shown someone caused the damage, then get it repaired. If they can't actually sort it because it cant be proved they were the cause, then don't worry about it too much unless its going to lead to further paint damage.

Not heard back yet, hence keen to hear as many suggestions as possible.

I'm hoping that as a customer of some 15 years they will take me at my word on the damage not having been there before, that and there is a tiny mark in almost exactly the same spot on the other side...

The car was only in their workshop so no chips or marks from road use, just seems like carelessness / bad luck.
