Help me justify this.

I am currently getting 25-30 MPG on the Saab, however I seem to be having minor electrical issues every now and then, these aren't big bills but they do add up.

Now I figure this means I can go for something getting around 20 MPG with less gizmos that are liable to go wrong, ideally I would like to keep depreciation and unnecessary running costs to a minimum - happy to pay for good tyres and what not, but I'm grieved to be paying out for little whirlygigs every other week.

Budget is up to 6-8k once the Saab is sold, something that is a bit rarer and not seen on the road that often would be preferential.

I'd rather spend on an auto electrician and leave it with them for a week to completely sort out unless you've got the cash lying around and have lost confidence in the Saab

It strikes me that the car you are looking to buy will be a lot less reliable than the one you want to sell because it is becoming unreliable..
Am I missing something?

No I want something with less pernickety electricals. Something fast but simple. Like an E36 M3 or something of that ilk.

I'm really just trying to to justify the change as the Saab has gradually grown on me.

20 year old BMWs are not noted for entirely trouble-free electrics.

I was waiting for someone to say that. As I said I dont mind repair bills. Im getting annoyed at replacing the sensors on my self levelling headlights or a relay for the electric heated seats. Just a nuisance as I don't really need these things.

The stag looks lovely but I couldn't fit in one due to my height.

Is that price correct? I thought 4 Star Classics weren't the cheapest?

If so, can I get my Bigfoot/Shrek shaped self behind the wheel?

Could be worth a look, thanks for the link.

How about a Monaro?

£8k should get you an early 5.7 cv8 in good condition. Big V8, not a huge amount of electrical stuff to go wrong, definitely rare, and a wonderful soundtrack!

That's their "trade sale" side, so more reasonably priced than their premium stock. Which would be more like: http://www.4starclassics.com/TVR-Chimaera-4-0-For-...

At to height, not sure as I'm of fairly average height and build and fit comfortably in them. I recall TVRs were all designed to accommodate Peter Wheeler's 6ft 5in frame, so I'd suspect so.

Monaro would be a good idea, will add that to the list. Is there a member on here that runs a Monaro/VXR8 speciailist garage? Sure I've seen someone mentioned?

The TVRs seem to be good for tall drivers, bit concerned about some of the reliabilty based reviews, but I guess a lot of that is just internet hype.

You should head over to the HSV & Monaro section if you want more info (http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&f=69&mid=243644).

I think Preciousmetal on here runs elitecars which specialise in selling Monaros, and the guys Monkfish Performance in Milton Keynes post regularly too. My Monaro is always serviced at Monkfish.

Oh good God that's perfect!

OP, I think you would have to be a little bit mad to walk away from this

Anyone know the MPG costs on these, say 7000 miles a year, some town driving..

The mileage is playing on my mind slightly. Still looks great for the money and well worth a look.

A Chimaera probably isn't the best idea; although fairly simple and therefore fundamentally reliable most of them require regular regular tinkering by the owner, and the one linked above makes no mention of the condition of the chassis, so i'd budget for a £2k refresh.

How about a MkIV Supra Twin Turbo? I'm sure you could get a nice one for your budget, they are also fundamentally reliable cars, but come without the niggles.

I like how it's gone!

OP - 'I want a more reliable car, this one keeps breaking down'

PH - 'TVR...?"
