Why oh why are the handles on diesel pumps regularly covered in diesel? It seems every time I fill the car up I end up stinking of the stuff. Strangely it only seems to be a problem on the diesel pumps the unleaded are usually clean.
I have now started to wear the disposable gloves that some garages provide.
I don't think I have ever seen anybody else wear the gloves. What about you? To glove or not to glove?

Petrol evaporates. Diesel doesn't.

I 'glove' in the diesel bmw but don't 'glove' for the Tiv

I wear them when I fill up my van (diesel) and my car (petrol). Nice clean hands all the time :-)

Not for petrol. Always with diesel. Horrible slippery smelly stuff that I don't want anywhere near my interior.

Had a pair of those thick red work gloves in my van. Used to fill up with diesel every day at all sorts of odd places. Was well armed with hand wipes and sanitiser gel too. Yes I like clean hands smile

As per many, gloves for the diesel work hack and not for the toy. Super unleaded actually smells quite nice after many fills of diesel wobble

I wear one every time, why would I want to stink of it?

My own car is petrol but all the company cars are diesel so I wear the gloves, at least I wear the gloves when I remember. I hate the smell on my hands and it really doesn't seem to wash off very easily.

Now you mention it though I see lots of people with diesel cars but very few use the gloves, nation of smelly people!

My car is petrol, but I wear gloves because of the number of times somebody has been careless and managed to splash diesel on the petrol pump handle - wkers.

Gloves every time - I'll drive elsewhere if the garage doesn't have them, the stuff stinks.

I'm in my van all day and there's nothing worse than rubbing your eye or eating your lunch and being abruptly reminded that the pump you used earlier was covered in it - or the last knob to use your van managed to spill it everywhere but inside the fuel filler nozzle.

Always wear the disposable gloves when filling up, just in case of any fuel spill.

Don't want the small of 99RON in the car, and especially don't want any fuel contamination of my alcantara steering wheel getmecoat

I may be in for some flaming, but I wear gloves every time I refuel both diesel or petrol for a very different reason: http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/news/fuel-pum...

It's not the stuff on the pump that bothers me (not owning a DERV aside) but people also manage to spill it fking everywhere.

Can be pretty dangerous, especially if on the bike. Might invest in some studded metal foot controls.

Oh Dear.... my thoughts having read the thread title would have been 10-1 against people wearing gloves to fill up. I don't think I've ever worn gloves, nor noticed anyone doing so. Maybe there's a north south divide on this one.

Well I'm a Northerner who lives down South, so I don't know where that puts me (apart from down South obviously wobble ) but I use the gloves when filling my work diesel car especially if I'm not going straight home afterwards where I can wash the smell off my hands properly.
