Hey Fellas,

I'm considering getting a R35 GTR this year - I've been looking at them for quite a while so I'm very keen to get some inside information about owning one.

A lot has been written about costs and serving which honestly scares me senseless. It's the reason I haven't taken the plunge, I have enough capital to purchase the car but the 911 I own seems significantly cheaper to run. I only do 9k a year, maybe even less than that.

I've been looking at Lichfield and their servicing and warranty - it does give me a piece of mind if I buy a car privately (I've only bought trade cars never private so I'm quite fearful of doing so).

If anyone can give me more advice - my budget is up to £44k, does anyone think I should get it on lease?

Cheers,

Ganan

Early cars are holding their value well so depreciation will not be too bad.

Once out of nissans warranty (3 yrs) you only need to service them yearly or 9k miles which is inline with the later GTRs service schedule. A service at litchfiels will be anything from £130-£700 depending on which is due, around 50% more if you use Nissan HPC.

Tax+insurance will be around £1200 per yr.

Tyres £1200 per set for non runflats,£1500-£2000 for runflats.

Brakes expensive around £2.5k to replace all round.

Expect to average 18-20 mpg.

They are very reliable cars. Early scare storys of £20k gearbox replacements were down to a minor issue which at time nissan had no fix for. This can now be prevented or fixed for around £500.

They do make lots of unusual noises which are perfectly normal but could be quite offputting if you dont know what gour looking for.

Ive owned one for about 19 months and was worried about the running costs but they are nowhere near as bad as i thought and i do around 7k miles per year though a lot will depend how (hard) you drive it.

Lots of info and help at the GTROC forum

Really appreciate all the advice. I'll have a look in GTROC forum - I'm looking at a couple 09' cars - hopefully I can get one which is a bit younger. What year is your car?

I mainly use the underground for work or the bus frown, so the car is for something special! I do some great road trips which I have yet to plan every 3/5 months so the car will be used for some great roads.

Brakes - ahhh, I've heard some things about them. How would I know whether or not they're a good one? Like you said there is a lot of noise coming from the car - any tell tell signs? I might actually get lichfield to have a look at the car before I purchase. Is it necessary to get tyres changed even if there is minimal thread? I've changed the rears of my 911 but that was 2 years ago.

I'm sorry for all the questions - any advice is greatly appreciated. Think I should save a bit more and go for a MY11 car instead of a MY09/10 car?

Cheers!

Have had an R35 for a year now and the running costs have really impressed me. I would honestly say that if ipod integration and satnav are a must then go for a later car. However... these gadgets will never be a much fun as spending 5 grand or so on an SVM 650r conversion. Simply put, I have never owned or gone shotgun in a car as fast. Staggeringly quick and the beauty is that you can wind it all down and cruise at 70mph getting 28-30mpg. Switch on the high boost map.... Nothing on the roads is likely to come near.

Cheers fellas for all the advice. There is one at Litchfield which looks interesting, spoke to a fella called Ian there, anyone know him?

With tyres, I've been seeing there are now a few choices. Any particular ones you think I should stick with?
