Have people forgotten how to drive?! The next time you're on the motorway, count the number of people in the wrong lane versus the number of people sticking to the left and I guarantee there are more in the middle. It amazes me lately how so many people don't know how to use motorway lanes properly...

Loads about, Pet hate of mine, Its is ironic as a few months ago there was lots of talks on the BBC web site and the news how this is going to become an offence to hog the middle lane.

Next time see them - if have time - creep up to them in lane one to the point where they can hopefully see you (if they are awake) in passenger mirror, then drop back and the over take them (by moving into lane 3) and the back to lane 1.
Now if they are awake they should move to lane 1.
If not slow down so they overtake you and repeat the above.

I have done this to a few driver on a quite motorway. Most will move over, a few I've had to go around them twice before they wake up and work out that not just lane 2 on a motorway

Undertake at speed, cut in front without indicating, slam your brakes on whilst holding down your washer jets. Problem solved.

A rough guess lane 1 full off lorries drivers don't like to be sandwiched between them.No excuse to hogg the middle lane if left lane is clear.

Motorway driving part of the beginners lessons and test.Maybe some people are scared driving on the Motorway and feel safer driving in the middle.Don't read the highway code.If these drivers are undertaken once or twice might wake them up or not.>smile

Agreed, I drive on the motorway a lot and see this all the time. I've also noticed I've been in lane 1 and gaining on the car ahead and start to think about moving to lane 2 when for no reason at all they move into lane 2 even though there are no cars in front of them? Very strange.

I hate people complaining about middle lane drivers almost as much as the drivers themselves.

It's been done to death on here, many times.

We all agree here that these people are utter dorks, but not a lot can be done. Just have to suck it up.

On the upside, more people seem to be getting fked off with MLMs these days.

Me? I just take great pleasure in casually passing them on the left.

In my opinion, it will continue to happen until more people are punished and fined for it, then the news will get about amongst friends that people actually are being fined and punished with points and people will be more wary of it.

Not that they should be doing it in the first place! No need for it at all...

Glad in a way I'm not the only one this happens to , while I don't like the sit in laners as i think they are just too lazy to concentrate on their driving, I don't understand the ones who move over for no reason at all.

"drive up in the inside lane. change to outside lane. overtake. pull into inside lane. allow them to over take. repeat until they get the message."

Read this on another site a while back, gave it a try returning from some night work on a few london private hire taxis on the M25. Record was 5 times.

Supposed to be a new law in place for the police to be able to ticket such offenders..

Im not sure who annoys me more, those with front fog lights on when its not foggy or those who drive in the middle lane when lane 1 is free.....

I do a lot of diving on motorways, and I've come across lots of middle lane hoggers and even fast lane hoggers. What i do is just pass them safely without incident. You could sit on their bumper flash your lights or get in front and put your windscreen washers/rear fogs on but why waste your time or risk your life? If your on the motorway then its very likely that you are trying to get somewhere ie work/home/dogging etc so instead of adding to your journey time and potentially risking having a accident by some sort of tomfoolery to get them to change lanes, you should just ignore them and get past with as little fuss as possible. Ive lost count the amount of times ive witnessed a driver try to enforce the "move over" move by risking their own lives! 70mph is a dangerous speed a lot can go wrong very quickly.
The point im trying to make is by letting yourself get worked up about other drivers poor driving skills what your actualy doing is taking your attention off of driving your own car. As long as you dont drive like a pr**k yourself and reamin CALM! If you cant be calm whilst driving especially when dealing with lesser experienced drivers then in my view your just as s**t a driver as the hoggers.
