Second Hand Car - Second Key
Discussion
My parents bought a second hand car from a dealer in Dublin just after Christmas. There were two issues with the car, a soon to expire NCT (an Irish MOT) and a missing key. The dealer agreed to pick the car up in the new year and get the NCT and supply a second key so a deal was done and my parents bought the car.
The car was picked up today, and returned with a fresh NCT and a new key. However the second key is a 'simple' key — i.e you have to put the key into the door lock to unlock the car — rather than the larger 'flick' remote locking key that came with the car.
Regardless of whether they were manual or remote, every car both I and my parents have owned has had two matching keys. Before I go back to the dealer I want to know if this is true for all car keys. Specifically, would an early 2010 Hyundai i30 have been supplied with two remote keys or one remote and one manual key. I appreciate it's not the most expensive car in the world but it's not a bottom of range i30 ( it has full electrics, climate control, half leather, decent stereo) and I expected it to have two remote keys.
It never crossed my mind that they'd supply different keys and it's put a real sting in the tail of an otherwise excellent dealer experience.

Sorry to be unhelpful but it could be either.
My RX8 came with 1 spare remote key and 1 spare manual key..
That is helpful, just because all my cars came with matching keys doesn't mean I can assume they all do, a point which you have just proved. My RX8 came with 1 spare remote key and 1 spare manual key..

So maybe Kia only have the spare manual.
Oddly, the key for my parents Hyundai is, bar the logo, the same as the key for my sister's Kia.rehab71 said:
Some new Fords only come with one remote key,
Which Fords? Kas and Fiestas, or do Focuses get supplied with different keys.rehab71 said:
Unless you specified a second remote key you got was promised.
Unfortunately you're right. We didn't specify we were expecting a remote key and the dealer didn't specify he was supplying a manual key. It probably sounds petty but because of the misunderstanding that saved the dealer €50-€100 we're unlikely to buy a car from him again (and she's unlikely to recommend him to my brother of sisters). My mother has absolutely no interest in cars so can't understand why the old car they traded in had two remote keys, but the new only has one.Edited by GoodDoc on Thursday 16th January 22:22

My Seat Ibiza from new in 2011 had 2 different keys, 1 full fob the other a basic key.
So more common than I realised. I'm now really curious what the i30 was supplied with. Any Hyundai owners out there care to shed some light?radiodanno said:
i30 would have come with 2x remote flip keys from new.
However they are famously weak and I broke 2 in a year and I'm careful. Mechanism wears out. If it's a long term ownership prospect you might be better with a manual key.
Have to agree - the main one for my Rio is looking rather sorry for itself after 4 years. Poor. However they are famously weak and I broke 2 in a year and I'm careful. Mechanism wears out. If it's a long term ownership prospect you might be better with a manual key.

Am I the only one to read that and think FFS? (Not to mention FWP.)Edited by GoodDoc on Thursday 16th January 22:22

No, and recently some of the threads appearing have been way off our usual high standard
I seem to be more and more out of step with PH these days. The most trivial of life's problems seem to be worthy of posting on the internet (they aren't) rather than dealing it sensibly.
