I know there is a lot of these types of thing posted so sorry! but basically I am saving for a house deposit so my current car which I pay finance on has got to go to save some extra pennies! my budget will be between £1500 and £2500 could maybe push £3000 if it was a very good deal but the less I spend the better.. I would like something reasonably fast under 8 seconds, 30mpg+ and the lower the insurance group the better! open to all ideas but as I am trying to save money,so something reasonably reliable is needed as I don't want a money pit! I have looked at things from clio 172s to old vag diesels. what would u buy? cheers

Ford Puma 1.7. Doesn't quite crack the 8s criterion, but fun to drive, cheap to run and well within budget.

Money pit possibly??

Look at the Panda 100hp thing, that could be a bit different
Maybe a Polo/Lupo GTi which you can guarantee will be rather reliable on top of being quite quick

I don't know if you will find much for your budget that cracks 8 seconds and is reliable. Like Welshbeef you could look at Alfa GTV V6

Fiesta ST?

cheap to insure, ford parts are buttons (whilst they are pretty robust and reliable) and they are a good steer by all accounts

MG ZS180. £3k buys the best of the best, they fulfil the performance criteria and the handling is sublime.

My Fiat Coupe was the most reliable car I've ever owned, and it was 12 years old when I got it. As long as they've been looked after, they are not unreliable money pits.

You should just be able to get into a
Honda Integra Type R not sure on the MPG front or a MK1 Seat Leon Cupra R. If you need more space a Skoda Octavia VRS

Same here had mine from 6 years old and ran it up until 12-13 years only one failure a thermostat everything else routine standard servicing.

Very fast lovely sound lovely dash even today its still a very cool looking dash

Regret getting rid of mine even to this day it would be a great 3rd fun car.

thanks for the replies, will have to have a look into the suggestions so far! have thought about an MG ZR the 1.8 160 but worried that it may be difficult to get parts for them these days? I am swaying towards a clio 172 as it seems to fit my criteria although not sure on the reliability, can anyone shed any light on what there like to own?

I have a Fiesta ST. Barely costs me much more to run than my old 1.4 when driven sensibly. Capable of raising a big grin when you fancy it too!
