fog lights / indicators

Who on Earth thought that it would be a good idea to design cars to illuminate the front fog lights when the indicators are turned on? Now I can't see their indicators because they just look like fog-light w
kers with a bulb out.
Whoever came up with that idea should be shot.

I'm guessing my 5 series does it (but how would you know). They are as useful as front fog lights - absolutely no use at all.In my opinion it's a cop out so that the manufacturer can add "cornering lights" to the spec list without actually spending any money fitting proper ones.
My last car (A B6 shape passat) had proper cornering lights that swiveled in their housing together with steering lock which was awesome on dark country lanes. They also had a totally seperate bulb and reflector that pointed out of the headlight at 90 degrees, which would come on when indicating under 15/20mph and was great for illuminating side roads before turning into them.

Whichever 'bright spark' thought of this idea should have been immediately removed from the development room and promptly hit with the idiot stick.
Helping 'see' around corners, honestly; Just open your eyes and move your head a bit via the utility we call "The Neck". I've yet to go round a corner in the dark and think "Fek me, I nearly didn't see that pavement whilst I was turning. What I need is extra lights".
White lines, catseyes and street lights already fixed the problem - and then headlights sorted out the rest.
Whats next? Maybe we should fit a wraparound light, which beams stadium light from all over the car towards the direction we are taking to ensure that the entire area is fully illuminated with glowing white light. That'd help too wouldn't it?

I think it looks stupid too, but I have experienced it and it does work. At low speed negotiating a car park with poor lighting it does actually help! The fog lights, by their very nature, spread a lot of light but not very far / un-focused.
Far worse are the nobbers who just drive with them on because it's a bit dark...

Because headlamps are designed to illuminate the road ahead while foglamps tend to have a far wider and shorter beam spread. Makes sense to me, albeit I agree it's a cop out of fitting proper active cornering units to the main/dipped beams.Sensibleboy said:

Exactly, if you're going fast enough to need extra light, then by the time something appears in the 30 feet or so the foglights illuminate itis far too late do use the info.john2443 said:

In our Seat Leon? Not in any way, shape or form. It just makes you look a foglight wker with a foiglight out. Both foglights come on when you reverse - efficient reversing lights would have been so much better.I recently jumped into a Peugeot that had auto headlights, whereupon the individual headlight would come on when turning as manoeuvering. I was immediately told I had a headlight out.
