My colleague has just been told her car needs a new turbo. It's an '02 Golf 3-door GT TDI 130, with heated leather seats. It's done around 170k. There are a couple of marks on the bodywork, but nothing major, and the driver's door central locking needs attention.

She's been quoted £1200 for a new turbo, but was looking to move up to a van for a new business venture, so she's very reluctant to shell out. Is there much value left in the Golf, or is it strictly a spares/repairs case?

From what you have said I guess the persons mind is already made up to scrap it
Or depending on how much time they have / available space splitting it for parts should get around 600 to 700. Full leather interior if in good nick should sell quick.

It should make £400-500 on ebay.

Put it on eBay, and put spares repairs in the title

It will make approximately £3000 more than a full working example, as everyone thinks they can make a fortune buying from eBay!

Trust me, I've bought cheap, listed as spares repairs with all faults listed, and made silly amounts!

Cheers for all the replies, I figured as much. Another colleague got £500 on Ebay for a non-running Micra last week and the buyer was apparently chuffed. Martin, we're on the south coast. It still drives, just doesn't have any oomph!

Unfortunately ebay appear to be intent on closing off that particular avenue of pleasure with 10% seller fees which now includes postage plus paypal fees and of course the hassle of some ebay buyers who main intent is to take full advantage of ebays buyer protection policy that allows sellers very little room to do anything other than capitulate.
