I'm Guessing the answer is Yes but has Anyone else on here bid on an item, become highest bidder, then been outbid, couple of hours later that bid is cancelled reverting you back to the highest bidder?

Not experienced this before.
I've have though heard of the second chance offer at auction end.

Someone, probably the seller, wants to know what you bid.

That's what the cynical part of me was thinking.

Someone testing what your highest bid is, so they can run you up to it.

Shill bidding, illegal but does happen.

Yes

More likely someone has seen a comparable car for sale and wants to know what you've bid.

Sellers just get their mates to effectively act as the Reserve price - pointless then removing the safety net.

only really a problem if you are outbid, that bid is retracted then another bid appears just shy of your max bid.

That's why I never, ever bid on anything until the last few seconds when I bid the maximum I'm prepared to pay for that item.

Update; had a live chat with ebay, just asked them to look at the activity to see if Shill bidding was suspected. Miraculously within a few mins, I was Outbid. Hhmmn......

Anyway, out of it now.
Stick with classifieds from now on me thinks.

Use sniping software such as gixen. You don't have to watch the auction, don't get auction fever and don't suffer shill bidding. Some don't like it but it works for me.
