Which insurance company's are favouring young drivers presently?
It's for my 17yr old daughter, on a 1.0 Corsa. She's getting online quotes of £2500 upwards.

I typically use Tesco Conmpare (comes out cheapest for me most often) then double check with direct line and aviva...

Add yourself or other experienced drivers with no accidents or points as named drivers (even if they will never drive) and try messing around between on road and drive as applicable - I went through a phase of on road being cheaper.

Also have you got the car already? - 1.0 corsa's will be expensive as many kids crash them, she is also likely no longer benefitting from the gender discrimination rules which mean she is treated the same as 17 year old bloke....

Many thanks Kiethton.
I wasn't aware that the car type would increase the premium, I assumed a group 1 car would be a group 1 premium.

often there is that correlation but they also look at statistics...

Being a common first car many get written off/are involved in accidents = higher risk weighting

Thats what people may find more 'unfashionable' cars as easier to insure, even if bigger/faster eg.:

Focus saloon cheaper than hatch
Toyota Yaris/Starlet
Suzuki Wagon R/Vauxhall Agila

basically anything that anybodies friends would take the mick out of and thus what the new driver wouldn't have to prove anything in....

ETA. try the above as it should help a little - Postcode can often be a problem though and that can't be changed.

Here's what I do for a cheap quote

Compare the market
Daughter as main driver
play around with job titles. Different titles might imply the same job but be cheaper
both parents as named drivers
Try different cars. Corsas are popular with people young people that like to crash. My 2.5 rover 75 was cheaper to insure than a 1.0 corsa. Insurance groups are meaningless tripe.
policy start date set to as far away as possible (It won't matter, i'll explain this later)
6k per year
car parked on the street

The cheapest will be bell/admiral/diamond. Policy will be cheaper if you put the start date as a month away but hey will allow you to take the policy out instantly at the cheaper price that you got from changing the start date. Don't ask me why this is. IDK.

Click on go to insurers webpage and sometimes the 10 month bonus accelerator policy is significantly cheaper. Sometimes it isn't.

Admiral/Elephant have always been best for me from 18-22, adding my mum and dad as 2nd and 3rd drivers saved a nice amount.

My 17 yr old daughter is driving a k12 micra 1.2 sport +. I transferred my own and wife's insurance to Admiral in preparation for her starting to drive as they allow multi car discount and a share of our ncb - 13 and 14 yrs protected. Daughter's cost works out at about £650 fully comp. this is expected to rise to £1400 when she passes her test and becomes main driver.
Beware the teaser rates that are cheaper while she is on a provisional licence as more often than not, they soar when she passes her test. Ask or check to see what that quote would be with full licence and no ncb.
Micra is classed as a "granny car" so i guess that helps. Not cool but 5 door , abs and side airbags with air con were what I wanted for some peace of mind. Good luck.

Thanks all.
It's a mine field out there for youngsters!
Different company's tell you different story's regarding car groups ect...
After spending the last 24hrs on the phone, we've got a yearly policy for £1150 with a box fitted.

Good on you. Ignore the tin foil hat morons that will soon appear on here to tell you that have a black box fitted will mean the Earth will get sucked into the sun!

Give iKube a ring they fit a black box in your car and you can't drive from 11pm-5am, if you do they charge you £100.

Also, there is potential for 10% of the yearly premium to be returned after 3 months, for good driving behaviour!!
Happy days....

The cheapest quotes I got were when I applied directly to the company. Unfortunately there cheapest I've had is £2,400 (Churchill). Confused.com wanted £10,000 and money supermarket £4,000
