Motoring blonde moments?
Discussion
Was driving home tonight and came to a quiet corner I know quite well, was 11:30 so the roads were dead and wet so went to have a wee slide coming out the corner only for there to be a fair bit less power than usual...

ks methinks, start thinking what's gone wrong, what's broken. Had a couple small pulls and was only getting about 5 psi, just couldn't think what was wrong as it seemed fine! Then remembered last night after blowing a bung out of one of the intake pipes I had out the boost controller on low, which sticks it to a pretty much standard setting... Pressed the button and all was well. Sadly, it wasn't the first time I'd done this!
Anyone got any daft moments, leaving tools in the engine bay, boots open etc?

I recently drove the TVR home in the dark, thinking that the headlights were crap. The traffic cleared a bit so I pushed the full-beam button on the steering wheel and the lights flashed and went out again. I cursed to the wife and concluded that the control box must be faulty, and drove most of the way home holding the button down for full beams. About 2 miles from home it occurred to me to check the knob for the lights, and I had been driving home on side lights. Doh!
I was giving a car a bit if a check over prior to meeting a potential buyer, managed to leave the bloody rad cap off so it was bubbling over by the time I got there. Wasn't at home and couldn't be seen along the route I'd taken, it took me about 2 hours and 3 motor factors to find a new cap.
The guy bought the car, but it was one if the most stressful times I can remember, particularly for my 7 month pregnant wife who stayed with him in my car whilst I took hers to find a bloody rad cap!

Tried to ride off on my bike with the disc lock still attached - Painfull gonad/petrol tank interface.
Left the fuel tap on reserve on another bike and thanks to crap/badly maintained carburetors filled the crankcase with petrol.
Forgot to switch the fuel tap to on prior to a hillclimb run on a bike.
Forgot to put fuel in the car before a hillclimb run with a kit car - excuse was it was my son's 21st birthday the day before and I wasn't feeling too good.
Forgot to switch on the electric water pump on my kit car and overheated destroying the water pump.
Changed disc pads and put one in backwards so the metal side was against the disc - that was noisy.
Forgot to replace the oil filler cap after topping up the oil - good rust treatment of the engine bay.
I am sure there are others - I shouldn't be let out alone !

I got to the garage for a service one morning, opened the door and the headlight warning tone started beeping. I checked all the switches and couldn’t think figure out why it was telling me that my headlights were on. Three minutes of swearing.
Turns out that I hadn’t cancelled the indicator.

Purchased an Aprilla RS 250 and couldn't work out why the lights weren't coming on... Purchased a new battery (it needed one anyway) and new bulbs... After a few hours of cursing I realised i had to turn the lights on by switch as opposed to modern bikes where they stay permanently on :/
Once didn't put the oil filler cap back on properly after inspecting. I then did a fairly long drive from Sheffield to Nottingham for a job interview, pulled up in the car park thinking there was a strong smell of oil and found engine bay covered in the stuff and it smoking. The loud bang about halfway through the journey was the cap flying out from under the car on the M1.
Some years ago but..
Me: angry customer taking his brand new Focus ST back to the dealers as the HID washers don't work.
Salesman, walks up, gets in car and hey presto, pop up, squirt - works fine
Me: How come it worked for you?
Salesman: Did you turn the lights on first?
Me: aaaaahhhhhhhh

Drove from Solihull to Hythe having done the same. Many years ago I set off down the road in a Seven having forgotten to clip down the bonnet.
After about 100 yards, it suddenly flew up and disappeared over my head.
So I stopped, and wombled back down the road to look for it, expecting carnage and decapitated pedestrians.
But I just couldn't find it.
After about five minutes I discovered it perched on top of a hedge. It was even the right way up.
Not a scratch on it anywhere.
