Deposit paid on new (2nd hand) car - 997 Turbo
Discussion
Hi all
I've just placed a deposit on a 2007, 23,000 mile 997 Turbo from an independent dealer, there is no warranty and I was looking at getting my own, Porsche warranty is out as it's been modified slightly (Cargraphic exhaust, filter and remap (520-ish bhp), Bilstein B16 Damptronic coilovers and Cargraphic nose lifting system) and I wondered if anyone else has used an insurance based warranty company like Warrantywise or Warranty Direct and if a/ if they are any good and pay out as required and b/ if they accept modified cars?
Also, I intend to run run it on V-Power but does anyone know if 997 Turbo's are ok to run on standard 95 ron unleaded if I can't find super?
Thanks

I've just taken out a Warranty Direct policy, very different car though.
I discussed the "modified" question at length with the people there- modifications explicitly void both the component warranty and any cover for subsequent damage. The example used was "if you remap the engine for a higher power output, and have a clutch failure that destroys the flywheel, that wouldn't be covered as it could be reasonably argued that the modification accelerated or caused the failure of the covered component".
I don't know how far this can be logically extended though (will a remap invalidate the warranty on the turbocharger? How about the differential) but I imagine it becomes a common tool for getting out of claims.
As an aside, I've actually been quite impressed with their behaviour in terms of selling- despite loads of people saying they're very aggressive in it, the chap I spoke to was very good, extremely knowledgeable and didn't press anywhere near as hard as I thought he was going to when I said "can I have a couple of days to look at options and decide whether it's right for me?". Far better than the other companies I inquired with.

Congrats!
I just picked up my 07 turbo with 20K miles on it.
Mine is standard though.I am loving it!
Glad to hear it, can't wait to get my hands on it now, first bloke paid £114,000 for mine, then spent another £15k on it! £84,000 more than I'm paying! Hopefully it shouldn't lose too much more over the next few years.I just picked up my 07 turbo with 20K miles on it.

Mine will be my daily driver, are you using yours every day? how are you finding it?
Yes I'm using mine as a daily driver.Today is my first day to work in it.30 mile commute leaving London then a bit of M25 and some A roads.Had a brilliant morning!
Got mine from OPC with a big warranty on it.
I didn't have the bottle to go indie because if warranty fears.
But- I had an indie warranty on my RS6 that paid out to replace the DRC with bilsteins when it failed so they can work.

Hartech?
Sorry???I have only heard good thing about them. It is more a maintenance/warranty plan. The only downside is that they are based in the North West and I am in the South East, otherwise my cars would be covered by them.
Enjoy the Turbo, cracking bit of kit!

Heard very mixed things about them I must admit, but most of the complaints seem to boil down to people not really understanding what is and isn't covered. It was pretty damn cheap for a year's policy so I only need one failure of an A/C compressor level of cost to recoup my investment and then some.
Anyway, don't want to derail this thread with discussion of it...
Ok, final comment on this matter. I had ICE cover, and yet when I came to make a claim on a CD multichanger head unit (in an RX8, if interested) then it was rejected because 'that's a wear and tear item sir'. Oh get fAnyway, don't want to derail this thread with discussion of it...
