A little help needed! I've got about 5k burning a hole in my pocket and I'm looking to change. I'd like a "hot hatch". I'd like to hear your opinions on a few of my idea's.

Mk6 Fiesta ST; Cheaper to buy, nice to look at but not that quick in a straight line.
EP3 CTR; Poor image, hard to find a nice one, but slightly quicker than a Fiesta ST maybe?
MK5 Golf GTI; Lovely car but struggling to find a good one for my budget. Slightly boring?
Swift Sport; Looks good, much slower than the other too slightly girly?

Overall I'm looking at the Fiesta ST the most, looks a fun cheap car to hustle around for a year and I've always liked Fords. Any other suggestions welcome, no MX5's hehe.

Hmm... Posting at early dinner time.
Chasing for an answer at washing up time.

I'd take the EP3 out of that list personally

The ST's engine isn't great in my opinion, it's a gruff unit in a small car but it is nicely chuckable on the twistier roads.

Golf GTI, if you can find one at that price it will surely have galactic mileage/be a bit of a snotter.

My girlfriend has an 11 plate Swift Sport, it's a cracking little car, but if you are really after a good turn of speed I'd look elsewhere.

Out of those I'd go for the ctr or st. The golf I assume will be headed for or over 100k for sub 5k? The ctr is a very well put together thing and I know the looks and vtec thing divides opinion but I reckon they're ace cars. The fiesta I think would be difficult to beat the ctr but I like the interior in them. The engine isn't quite up there with the civics though. 5k should get you in a decent unmolested late civic shouldn't it???

Five grand will, yes, many of them see higher mileage but they are good for it providing it has been looked after, full service history and a seller (if a private buy) who knows their stuff is essential IMO.

The ST won't stand up against the CTR in the engine stakes, at all, it's 50 horse power down (as new of course) and missing all of the Vtec unit's character.
