Anyone got the correct answer to this one, can you retain a number plate on a currently un-taxed vehicle?

The vehicle was taxed, the tax disc was cashed in and the vehicle automatically became SORN (so there was no break between taxed and SORN). The car has just been re-MOT'd and has 12 months remaining.

DVLA Website: The vehicle should also be taxed, unless: there’s no break between the date the tax disc runs out and the start of the SORN OR the tax disc has run out in the last 12 months.

V317 Appication Form; If the vehicle is not taxed, you can still apply to transfer its vehicle registration number without renewing the tax, if you have made a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN).

If anyone has the answer it'd be much appreciated as now there's now DVLA offices its not a simple case of popping by the the documents and if there not correct having a chance to go correct them, thanks.

It'll be fine. Some of the documentation is a little contradictory as the rules changed fairly recently, but I transferred a plate away from a car that was SORN and had just failed an MOT, and had no issues.
