Andros Trophy: Time For Tea?

No need to stop motorsport over the winter; just race on the ice!

Driving on ice is huge fun. Racing on ice, if this video of the Andros Trophy is anything to by, must be absolutely hilarious.

The cars just don’t go straight. Anywhere. More often than not they seem to spinning at rather ridiculous speeds. Or crashing. They sound like they’re powered by some very naughty V6s too.

Moreover, the cars aren’t what you expect. There are Dacia Lodgys duking it out with 1 Series BMWs and Toyota Aurises as well. It all looks like a rather exhilarating (if very cold) motorsport spectacle.

And if racing a car on ice seems utterly insane, wait until you see the quadbikes and the motocross riders.... This is hardly a big budget production of the Andros Trophy, but it may well be enough to get you interested.

Enjoy

As seen in the TG rear wheel drive challenge thing a few years ago: http://www.topgear.com/uk/videos/rwd-challenge-par...

Spaceframe cars, no RWS, but AWD and very light. Cracking stuff. biggrin

TV doesn't do it justice. In the flesh it's brutal.

I was lucky enough to watch this many moons ago in Alpe d'Huez. Yvan Muller stomped everyone, but it was brilliant anyway.

A tent to work in! Looks a lot more civilized than the ice racing in Canada where the most important feature for an ice racer is that the heater works really well.

Those Frenchies eh, bonkers. Looks like an awesome nights enterntainment to me. They say that there is a very fine line between genius and total insanity, this surely must define that line. smile

Pretty sure it was Micra's that took the 4wd and steer with the engine mid/rear mounted route first. mental.

It was pretty "cool" to see Alain Prost win it.
