It appears VW are going to make a 4-wheel drive polo to celebrate their WRC win. Slated to have 250bhp and cost ~£21k. Does this herald a new breed of Rally reps? Why did Citroën never get in on the action even after 9 consecutive wins?

Possibly because they have no experience of mass-produced 4WD cars, unlike VW (who have their own and Audi).

£21k and I'll put an order in tomorrow, just after I've watched Hell freeze over.

"Hello is that Mr Volkswagen?"

I take it your referring to this car OP?

No 4WD as far as I can see and the 2.0 TFSI out of the MK7 Golf GTI with 220bhp.

I'll keep my Fiesta thanks.

Why can't manufacturers fit cars with big arches and spoilers when doing rally reps. A set of stickers just don't cut it.

I was referring to this article on jaguar land rover weekly: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/volkswagen/pol...

Admittedly looks wise it's a bit understated.

Ah ok that looks a bit more eventful than the first WRC concept, certainly with regards to performance!

I'm still sceptical about the price though, as much as I hope it's around that price.

Citroen was an interesting one, the closest they ever got to cashing in on their WRC success was the warmed over C4 'By Loeb' edition. My guess is that, whatever Citroen's motorsport division thought, PSA were not interested. One has to remember that the years of Citroen's WRC success coincided with the utter collapse of Citroen and Peugeot as manufacturers of performance cars - the Saxo VTR/VTS, the 106 GTi, the 306 GTi-6 etc etc, all washed away at the start of the Millennium. As both companies homogenised their range of bland cars, it didn't look as though there was a place for a hot Citroen.

Funny now that Peugeot have rediscovered their spark and are keen to make inroads in motorsport again, as well as recalling their past heritage!

Looks like a very potent package indeed and at £21k would be an utter bargain. I think that price is fairly optimistic though considering a polo gti can probably acheive that with a few options.
