You're wrong, they need care, but should be driven properly often.

There is a massive, massive gulf between driving them properly/as intended/hard, and thrashing them.

I don't think any car should be thrashed. No, not even a hire car, see recent thread..

But I do think there is little reason for having one if it never sees the fun half of the tacho.

Like most performance cars, they probably do better with regular, enthusiastic use and good maintenance.

As above I think that thrashed implies driven hard from cold and generally abused but well driven and at more fun revs/speed is a must. Not had a Ferrari but my Aston gets sideways and has seen the top end of 6th gear more than once.........it's currently broken as it has been for most of 2013 frown

They do - a PH'er has his 360 over 80,000 miles. OK, it's not as spectacular as the 200,000 TVR Speed Six, but hey... wink

Thank you ... At last there really is someone on here with some sense lol

Thrashed = driven hard

Maintenance ... Eh it's like cleaning in a hotel .. Doesn't it sort of just happen :-)

Sorry - got to disagree with you there. Maintenance HAS to happen, and you best look after it. The bills are hideous if you don't. Cleaning it on the other hand.... Meh.

(On the other hand my F430 broke every time I looked at it. Shame.)

TBH I think I was unlucky. A Friday car - the people looking after me were brilliant, but you can fall out of love with something.

For me 'Maintenance' is stay within the service intervals, drive with (some) mechanical sympathy, and listen to the car (check the oil/water/tyres, natch).

Then drive the bks off it. When legal and fitting, officer.

Thrashed? No.

Used to the extent of the performance once tyres/oil/brakes are heated up - yes. To my mind most performance cars need a good "airing" now and again.

My Ferrari had over 100k on it when I sold it.

They should be used.

When I say 'should', that is IMO.

Once you have bought one, you can do what you sodding like with it.

Owning a Ferrari is not a licence to drive like a tool. Any car like a Ferrari should be:

Driven with mechanical sympathy but used properly. Thrashed? What does that mean exactly?

Serviced and maintained regardless of cost. Why skimp?

Driven within safe and legal limits on the roads, and when permitted (track days, unrestricted roads) driven in a safe manner whilst still exploring the capabilities of the car without exceeding the capabilities of the driver.

Not be a museum piece.

But if you've done all you should do, and you park up wit the brakes smoking, exhausts glowing and a full adrenaline flush in your body - is that a 'thrash', or just 'spirited driving'.
