I have 2yrs foreign NCB which was accepted by Admiral in 2013. I have since bought a new car and I am getting considerably better quotes away from Admiral. I want to transfer my NCB to this new insurer but some do and some don't accept foreign NCB as is their prerogative.

My question is, when I cancel my Admiral policy and receive the certificate will it merely show something to the effect of "Admiral, NCB 3yrs" or do they typically carry a record of each insurer that has contributed towards the NCB?

It is my first time cancelling a policy so I am unsure of how the certificate will look and it occurs to me that this might potentially offer a way to 'domesticate' my NCBs.

Thanks in advance,

If the foreign NCB was accepted by Admiral then your NCB will show simply as 3 years NCB.

Don't cancel the policy as you will not get the NCB. Wait for the policy renewal and then do not extend it. Use the renewal to shop around with the quoted NCB on the renewal.

I took out the policy in July and while cancelling now will prevent it ticking over to 3yrs NCB there is still a signifcant saving if I move my NCB to the second car (Boxster S) and put my wife (A4) on the other. This is because the best quotes for the Boxster come from insurers who won't take foriegn NCB so this means only I potentially have access.

You won't gain this years NCB but the proof will just read 2 years, there will be no mention of it being Foreign.

Giving this further consideration, I could follow the same process with my spouse but cancel the policy earlier in it's life and get the domestic NCB for the price of some Administration charges. So long as the cost of moving to a 'domestic only' insurer is less than the Admin fee then this makes sense.
