'Kimi's world': Time For Tea?

Had a terrible interview recently? Watch Kimi mumble through a Ferrari chat and feel better

Kimi Raikkonen doesn't come across as a corporate kind of bloke. With some drivers apparently very keen to put their face to any brand, the sense with Kimi is that any involvement with advertising or marketing is wholly against his will.

Fortunately for those who enjoy awkward interviews, nothing has changed now Kimi has returned to Ferrari. Possibly the most visible brand in the world, the boys at Maranello have wasted no time in getting Kimi's phlegmatic face on Youtube.

In the 'Kimi's World' series, we find out about his thoughts on the Ferrari FF, F1 in 2014 and his relationship with the fans. All are brilliant, with even a first drive in a 650hp V12 Ferrari generating nothing more than casual observation of the passenger display and an apparent acceptance of the wheel-mounted controls.

'Raikkonen and Maranello' is particularly good. Sighing and mumbling, Kimi makes it patently clear he really doesn't want to be discussing Ferrari's home town with the poor interviewer. And we wouldn't have him any other way. Bravo Kimi.

If you want an interesting Kimi video interview, try this one on a podium (not safe for work).

Sorry; amazing driver, but he comes across as one seriously miserable sod. He has a life most would do anything for but he's always mumbling and moping around looking like he's just had sausages hammered into his lawn.

For gods sake man! You're driving an F1 car for a living in arguably the best motorsport company ever, has his health, tons of money (albeit no thanks to Lotus) and a hot wife.

Which for him is just the norm and nothing special.

He just wants to drive. He doesn't fit into the "modern corporate racing driver" mould because he has no patience for completely stupid questions from journalists.

Anyone who when asked why he wasn't at a prizegiving for Schumi gives an evil grin and answers like this:
Martin Brundle: “Kimi, you missed the presentation by Pele.”
Kimi : “Yeah.”
Martin: “Will you get over it?”
Kimi: “Yeah. I was having a st.”

Well, he's fine by me.

Kimi is Finnish - and having spent some time working in Finland I can confirm that they are all pretty much like this.

As one of my Swedish customers once said:

Its a great video, simply because it's a marketing and PR video by the worlds greatest race team, and they are asking their star driver about how he really feels coming back to the home of Ferrari, Maranello. They want emotion, nostalgia, a sense of belonging, and all that stuff.

He basically says, "It's alright I suppose - couldn't remember how to get here, there are some of the same people here as last time, but also, there are new people as well."

It's absolutely hilarious. He's a total legend. hehe

They even have bits of Ferrari's scattered around the town. At 1:10, on the video, there is a front end left by the roundabout. Possibly in case someone loses theirs ??

The "I was having a st" one is my all-time favourite, even better because he knows it's funny..

Amused me that if you start typing in the YouTube search bar, "Kimi I was", it suggests "having a.." but doesn't go any further hehe

Good spot! I was looking at the clean looking Lancia Beta a couple of seconds before that - not many of them left now!

Got to love him for not changing his Finnish way biggrin

Finns don't like talking too much, but do stuff instead, Swedes talk about doing stuff, but don't do so much. Two neighbouring countries with so different ways of life, could as well be on opposite sides of the globe.

And the other great Flying Finn (Mika Hakkinen) had some classic moments, this never fails to make me laugh.

Classic Mika moments

Indeed. The Finns so can't be arsed with talking that they don't even have any proper rules on word order.. There's a conventional way of saying things, but (particularly when alcohol is involved) you can actually say words in almost any order you like and it sounds OK.

I like this, it puts me in mind of a whole nation of Kimi-like Yoda impersonators hehe
