Aaaaahh!! Time for a (pokey) diesel - 10-15k - suggestions?

All,

That time has come where sadly due to the miles I am going to be doing, that I need to seriously consider a diesel. I am dreading losing the petrol engine, so want to limit the distress this may cause.

I want something that is still reasonably pokey and I can have a (little!) bit of fun on B roads.

I must confess that my knowledge is severely lacking in this area and the only thing that springs to mind is possibly a BMW 335D - is there anything else in this budget worth considering?

How pokey?
Golf/Leon/Octavia all available with 170bhp are probably the cheapest options.
Bigger Audi's with 3 litre TDI
BMW 330/335
Most Mercs are available with decent diesels

Alpina D3? Not as pokey as the 335d but very nice.

LCI 535d has to be a contender. Remap and off you pop faster than a car of it's weight should be capable of.

I would like to be the right (higher) side of 200bhp.

You can get a fairly good 335d for that; plenty of poke, good handling, not bad mpg.
