The word 'sport'

I recently heard an advert on the radio for a BMW 116i sport.
The advert contained the word 'sport' 3 times. Something along the lines of '116i sport 5 door sports hatch with sports seats'
I know Audi had something similar recently that used the word sport several times in the model designation.
Is it only me that finds it all a bit faintly ridiculous?
Marketing bluster at its best, appealing to thrusting go-getter types I am sure but i just find it daft especially in the case of the bimmer that will cost you £14k over 4 years for the pleasure.

But BMW and Audi have a lot of motor racing heritage - past and present - which is a very competitive sport.
Surely the things they do in their racing cars are passed down directly to all cars in their range.
Ordering the Sport and S-Line models models with a tdi engine just shows you to be a smart buyer.
All the sports car feel, looks, imagine and performance but only £30 tax disc. Best of both worlds I'd say.

Its similar to when I had my Z4M & it had a sport button...whats the point of that? surely it should offer its best out of the box & not have a silly sport button to mess about with.
It always reminds me of the E60 M5 aswell you had to press a few buttons to get all its BHP I don't understand why you would want to drive it with anything less than full power.

Nothing new, and not as ridiculous as this, which rockets to 60 in 17.4 seconds...

I'd always assumed that the "non sport" map in these cars existed purely for emissions testing (which I think is run in the car's "default" engine mode). I don't think you're ever meant to actually drive it like that.
