Is it possible these days to buy a car for £200 with at least some tax and MOT?

I'm due to take part in a challenge where we have a limit of £200, found a few small hatches on Autotrader, but is there anywhere else I should be looking? Ideally I'd like a big barge but I'm beginning to doubt if that is possible.

Out of interest, does anybody know what are the scrap values at for an average hatch?

You need ebay / car auction. Sincerely doubt you'll find a bargain on autotrader et al for that sort of money!

Mate at work sold a 53 plate vectra 1.8 saloon with 2 month MOT to WBAC for £225....or at least that's what they offered on the website. When he got there they knocked £75 off for some scratches and charged him a £50 admin fee.

He took it.

I had to laugh.

my friend bought a 02 plate Saab 9-5 2.3t in black with the intention of using it as a stop gap after his car had a Head Gasket issue, 6 month later hes only had to replace a indicator bulb to keep it going.

he paid £250.00 and it had 3 months tax and 8 months MOT. Guy just wanted rid of it as it was taking up space on his drive (ebay Buy-It-Now £450.00 accepting offers- which he did smile)

Someone on here bought a low mileage Skoda Felicia estate for £200 for their parents. There was a thread about it, looked pretty mint too.

There was a 60 odd thousand mile 406 with test that didn't even get any takers at £250

I have bought a few volvo 740's for between £100-£200 so possible certainly. One was a main dealer trade in that i got told about, and the other was for sale on an owners club so i snapped it up smile

I bought my '98 Puma for £200 with 9 months MOT ( I had to pay for the tax myself, bloody cheek biggrin ) , it's certainly not mint but does the job I need it to so yes it is definitely possible.

Someone at work is selling a taxed and MOT'd 1999 Mazda Demio for £150. It has a water leak into the spare wheel well. Apart from that it sounds fine.

Two weeks ago you could have had my E36 323i for £200 with a weeks MOT on it.

But it's got another year on it now.

Does anyone else think of Gran Turismo when they see those cars?
