Why on earth have they closed local DVLA offices? They provided much needed face to face help and could deal with stuff there and then.

I'm currently sat on hold (for the third time) to Swansea. The saga of buying a car with private plates and changing them for my plates has been ongoing now for 2 months!

Finally at the stage where my car is on year based plate. All required documents confirmed received by them on 8th January. Still no further on!

Have phoned numerous times and When you can get through you get passed around three departments. When you get to the final person the most they can do is email the department that actually does the admin and ask them to phone you back within 48hrs.

Grrr, very frustrating. Will say after giving the poor bloke I'm on with now a bit of an earbashing he is trying to find someone to take ownership and sort this out.

Imagine been a dealer with 6 cars sat in your showroom, not paid for, awaiting the DVLA to get their st together...frustrating.

Cripes I bet that really is frustrating!

I've been promised a call back in 30 min from the lass who actually has hold of the paperwork.

Why did they close local offices? Was it just down to cost?

I just transferred my number from the old car to the new car and after 3 weeks checked progress with Swansea and was told they'd never received the documents.

So I went about getting new copies of MOTs and applications for new log books underway (as they don't do new V5 application with a reg transfer any longer). Was just about to send it all off and the new V5 for both cars arrived in the post!

So that was a huge waste of my time.

Good job it wasn't sent off; just imagine the confusion that would have caused them!

Why didn't they log it on receipt?

The other weird thing now local offices have closed is that they don't send you back the amended doc's and a form to change the plates first, so now you get the V5 back first and you have to change the plates as they wouldn't match an ANPR check but you then have registration plates that don't match the tax disc on your windscreen until they send the amended MOT and Tax disc.

Not very well planned now is it!

Well, young lassie called me back and assured my all was in hand.
Change has been done electronically today. New V5, tax disk and confirmation certificate should arrive within 5 working day.
I'll believe it when it lands on the doorstep!

I had a similar situation with a missing V5, was a new car so submitted the new keepers supplement along with a V62 (request for a new V5) which is what they require.
Delay i'm being told was my fault as they sent me a new V5 from the purchase which they needed!

My mrs is having to advertise she has a 2005 plate car, can you imagine her embarrassment not being able to put her personalised plate on whilst we wait for the V5 and then have to send all the documents off and wait again

This could all have been avoided by buying sorry leasing or hping a brand new car.

On the upside, the Government is throwing money at "talking therapies" so if her embarrassment is affecting her daily life (ie she's too ashamed to go out etc), help should be more easily available now.

Because the publicity of losing 1200 jobs all over the country was lost in the news - the 400 more jobs created in SWANSEA went down well in wales..

Started in 2011 and an on line e-petition succeeded in a massive 4600 signatures

It's a shame. 1200 into 400 doesn't really work.
They are clearly struggling in Swansea. Never known it so busy.

Sad isn't it, peeps complained about how much money the public sector cost, and then ain't happy when it gets cut and can't get what they want.

For all those wanting to change plates, taxation class, or vehicle specs... Yeah, good luck with that.

Until they need to use it in any shape or form. My local A&E and main Post Office due to go imminently. This despite both being permanently packed out with queues round the block. Local Police Station went a couple of years ago and is now going to be 'luxury lifestyle living'. Police now have a kiosk (bought in a knock down eBay auction from an ex-Evening Standard vendor) and a push-bike

But on the bright side, they will still offer translation services if you can't speak English yes

Gulp.

Not looking forward come time to put my cherished plates on my new car due to be collected next month. They are on retention right now.

When the local office in Birmingham was open, I was able to get my paperwork - to put my cherished plates on my current car - sorted within 20 minutes after queuing for a while.

I complete IVA and register a number of Kit cars each year. This is MUCH harder now that the local offices have gone, Registering a Quantum has taken me months of wrangling over the phone with nine yes NINE members of DVLA staff. The IVA's have been a doddle. The registration process has dramatically lengthened. Poor show!

Did you find that the customer in there looked worse than the people in the job centre? Never understood it!

Thankfully my misses 2001 car came with a private plate on already, ensuring the neighbours were unaware of it age and allowing them to continue to think the 2 merc's on our drive must have cost a fortune whilst the reality is both together cost less than what most of the neighbours cars cost. Got £140 on ebay for the plate on the car as well thus covering the cost of transferring her own plate to it wink

It would have been if it had been publicised better.

I went to the Cardiff office a couple of weeks before it shut and nothing. Return a few weeks later to find the whole place shut down.

Luckily I haven't had any problems with sending documents to Swansea. Have heard some horror stories though.
