WAY343X 1982 Ford Fiesta XR2 Anyone have any history on this

Collected the car from Nottingham over the weekend, it was as described, in fact the seller was perhaps a bit hard on his car and himself. We drove it 400 miles back to the NE of Scotland, drove like clockwork, no rattles, squeaks or clunks. Thrilled to bits with it, now to sorting out the odd bits it needs, the usual Mk1 Fiesta quirks. All good fun.
The run up from Nottingham via Stockport to near Aberdeen went faultlessly, we covered the second leg of 320 miles in 5-1/2 hours on the road, a respectable time in any modern car never mind a 32 year old Fordie. The car ran like clockwork and returned around 30mpg with a full load. The car is now tucked away awaiting some cleaning and polishing at the weekend along with a few minor jobs before being enjoyed for the rest of spring and summer.
My 22 year old son who bought the car said we'd share the drive North, once he got behind the wheel I never stood a chance, I couldn't get him out of it!

I wanted to login especially to say what a brilliant Father / Son thing to do! I have very fond memories of going with my Dad to get a minivan doerupper. It was a complete wreck, I think it took me 10 years to pay him back for it (£200). I tore it to pieces in 2 days and sadly sold it 10 years later still in pieces - I'd have never felt safe driving it really, and I didn't have £5k lying around for the bodywork, I tried welding and its clear I'm not of artistic origin.
Really hope you both enjoy the car together over the summer!

We've done previous trips to Bradford (Renault Savanna), Shrewsbury (Classic mini), Oulton Park Cheshire (Robin Hood) and I did one alone to Tower Bridge (Porsche 911) Andrew was at college so couldn't get the time off.

Looks like it was Leicester registered.
A long...long shot, but maybe a dealer there may be able to tell you something.
How about writing to the local paper, Leicester Mercury I think. It might make a nice littoe human interest filler about a car from Leicester bought by a father and son...... You never know, it may poke someone's memory, or find the first owner.

I did the PC thing with two unusual cars my Dad had. Got no further with finding them, but I did get lots of info and offers of help from owners clubs and the like.
