Reverse through a flood? Better, shirley?
Discussion
Given that the most serious consequences of driving through a flooded section of road include a hydrolocked engine as the bow wave finds its way into the intake, would it be better to reverse through any water whose depth is enough to cause pucker?*
Note: I'm talking about floods maybe 12 inches deep, not ones obviously up to the bonnet.

- This may be a stupid question.
Never really understood what people were getting at about re Bow waves before and driving through floods.
This describes it well (with pictures)

Just don't let anyone tow you backwards through deep water -
(A couple of lads I once knew in this video)
Stick with it - quite funny at the end, and I think a first off road excursion with his new girlfriend

No. Because the water would vortex around and under the front (back) of the car.
The reason you want a bough wave is it reduces the amount of water directly under the engine compartment/front qtr of the car.
Possibly.
I didn't know a bow wave was an advantage. The reason you want a bough wave is it reduces the amount of water directly under the engine compartment/front qtr of the car.
