Hello all.

I am selling a Nissan Primera (well aware of the usual crowd this car attracts) and it's 'sold' three times on eBay.
As the latest 'winning' bidder hasn't bothered getting in touch or collecting when she said she would I have relisted it.
In a genuine attempt to weed out these fking amoebas I have edited my listing to include -

"Right, that's it. If you aren't White British, don't bother reading any further or bidding on my auction.
This Nissan has sold THREE times - to an Eastern European, an Indian and an African.
I am sick of being messed about - if you want my car: bid on it, win it, pay me a deposit within 4 hours (not negotiable!) and then collect it. You could even come and view it before bidding!
If you were born in Britain and your parents did a good job at instilling some degree of civility, good manners and basic etiquette - then bid away! "

Am I likely to be on the News and receiving threats from anti Racist charities or will I be okay?
More importantly, do I care!?
Should add - that's quite a heavily edited version of what I had originally typed up.

I can't say I'm a racist, as I'm not. But the fact that it's sold 3 times, and not one of them were White British is a matter of fact.

Anyway, please cheer me up with your various tales of woeful selling.

Not sure the 'white' British will go down to well... but I could understand your frustration. They'll be plenty of 'white' British born here chavs that will mess you around just as much no doubt.

Your stipulation to pay a deposit within 4 hours is far more an indicator of weeding out the time wasters.

I know the point you're trying to make, but your approach won't help!

I had this with a Toyota Avensis that I sold back in 2008. Everyone who rang up called me "Boss", everyone one who rang up wanted to offer me £200 blind, everyone who rang up was out to irritate me.

I'd scrap the auction format - list the car at 5% over the average price that you've "sold it for" already - and then you'll have it better.

I think.

I'd take that lot out and simply put in big bold text; "£100 PayPal deposit within 24 hours of auction end or it will be relisted."
Nothing more required really and keeps the amount of text within the listing down, so there's more about the car.

This is one reason I just use the classified ads rather than auction. Only serious people will come to view the car this way and no need to keep relisting as it stays live for 28days unless you cancel it.

I've had similar problems on eBay, I've started sticking to 'Buy it Now with Best Offer' when selling cars, listing with an artificially high 'Buy it Now' price to ensure buyers make an offer rather than hit 'Buy it Now'. I stipulate in the listing that all offers must be accompanied with a phone number so before accepting I can give them a call. Seems to be working so far, just bear in mind the simple adage that 50% of the population have below average intelligence whatever their race!

That would go viral in short order and you'd be strung up. Terrible, terrible idea.

No publicity is bad publicity.

Thanks for all the replies.
The thing is, I tried the "must pay deposit" route not the second and third auctions!
So that's why I've had to go the next step.
As recommended, I may have to try the Classified Listing rather than auction.
I could just do with getting rid of it as I've 4 cars and 1 garage!

Stuart.

For vehicles, classified only.

I'd pull that original decription, ebay could theoretically ban you.

If you deleted this line 'Right, that's it. If you aren't White British, don't bother reading any further one bidding on my auction' I don't see a problem with the rest of the rant...sorry ad.

SOLD a brand new Limited Edition Superdry Morgan 3 Wheeler leather jacket on EBay 3 times before Christmas. Each time the winning bidder was either Oriental Asian or eastern european and all failed to communicate via e mail or telephone. Each time I entered into the dispute process but this takes weeks and as far as I can see nothing gets done by EBay to the none paying/ communicating bidder. I think I was just unlucky though as I did once sell a Toyota Corrola to a group of Polish guys who were working on Hondas production line and an iPhone to a Russian living in Bristol who appologised for the conduct of his countryman giving them all a bad name.

i can't say i don't believe you, because I don't.

What do you think 'racist' means, if not that?

I would pull it too to be honest.

Advertise it somewhere else. I don't bother on ebay any more purely because of this, I have sold successfully before but the bad experiences outweigh the good.
Looks nice but isn't a particularly popular car, good luck.

eBay pisses me off almost as much as the plebs who use it.
There's more support for the buyer than the seller.
I've just had to pay £85 in fees (£45 for the three listings) and I am STILL trying to open unpaid item cases.
